Are we not training our police anymore?

Everything that would not belong anywhere else.

The problem of police officers placing injured people in the back seats of their cars was the topic of a seminar at the Wisconsin EMS Association's convention a few years ago. The Wisconsin State Patrol was the biggest offender. I concur.

What some departments had done, other than cutting the roofs off of police cars, was to spring the back doors. A couple of firefighters would grab onto the open rear door and pull on it to allow it to open so it was perpendicular to the car. Needless to say, the door wouldn't close again and the police cars would have to be towed. It didn't take long for the state's police agencies to stop putting injured people in the back seats.

Reading this thread once again confirms that some people should have just as much authority as a ripe strawberry.

I understand being a cop is a stressful job - but that stress must not be taken out on people, especially if you are representing the law.

The fire unit was performing a standard DOT-approved safety maneuver for fire and EMS units on crash scenes. I wonder if the police are trained in those techniques. The Wisconsin State Patrol tried for years to tell our firefighters and EMT's how to do their jobs. Fortunately, the EMS Association's attorney became involved and brought up the liability issues of the police officers telling fire and EMS vehicles where to park. That was about ten years ago. Didn't have any problems after that.

Wisconsin state law states that the fire officer on scene has authority.

Don't know if anyone ever saw the full 8-minute dashcam clip of the OK incident...it was pretty funny.

Well I was glad to see the captain made $17.5K off that officer. I think that it should have been more IMHO.
