The problem of police officers placing injured people in the back seats of their cars was the topic of a seminar at the Wisconsin EMS Association's convention a few years ago. The Wisconsin State Patrol was the biggest offender. I concur.
What some departments had done, other than cutting the roofs off of police cars, was to spring the back doors. A couple of firefighters would grab onto the open rear door and pull on it to allow it to open so it was perpendicular to the car. Needless to say, the door wouldn't close again and the police cars would have to be towed. It didn't take long for the state's police agencies to stop putting injured people in the back seats.
