Yeah, I know. This may be a hard one to get good info for.

Anyway, I know there are still a few squadrons of F-4s flying with friendly Air Forces around the world (and some not so friendly). So I was pondering what modern capabilities have been added. Has anyone modded a Phantom to carry an AMRAAM? Maybe the AIM-9X? I know ours could carry smart weapons, Mavericks, and most other weapons we had in the late 80s... Just wondering if the remaining Phantoms in the world were brought up to more modern standards in the late 90s and early 00s?

I was thinking if anyone did it the Israelis did.. But I they seem to keep their Air Force away from cameras more than a lot of other nations.

I thought of this in the F-22 thread, and while reading one of my glue sniffing boards at the same time. I have a lot of Phantoms in the model stash, and have thought about getting creative with the weapons load.

I think (not sure, will check when I get back at the office) that the Luftwaffe ICE mods to their Phantoms gave them AIM-120.

Ours have both the AMRAAM and AIM-9L: http://www.luftwaffe.de/portal/a/luftwa ... phan/techn They were modernised for AMRAAMs between 1991 and 1996.

Japan's F-4EJ Kai Phantoms are almost completely different beasts under their skins. They put a new radar in it, put in the same computer they use in their F-15s, put in a new HUD, replaced the INS and an all new RWS.

And that is why I love this board..

Do the AMRAAMS go in the same place on the fuselage as the Sparrows did? Or are they hanging them somewhere else? I am coming up dry on google... But I did find a picture of an F-22 with AMRAAMS on external hardpoints... Sometimes google gets confused

Yes, they both fit into the same recesses. They are both 12' long.
