My AA agent friend said he was a real ass to him.

Is he even a legitimate meteorologist?

Yes, he is. He was a metorlogist in Cleveland before he left for New York and then the Today program.

This is a semi-lateral move since NBC owns The Weather Channel anyway. It makes sense they would consolidate and "outsource" all their WX to TWC. With this in mind, don't look for him to be replaced.

Ok.. There is a difference between "guy who does weather on TV" and "Meteorologist." Meteorologists can be the "guy who does weather on TV" but they aren't always

A meteorologist has an actual degree in meteorology.. Where as the people who do weather on TV may or may not have some official sounding certification that sounds like it was bought from a website that advertises in my spam folder.

Agreed, but having a degree in meteorology does not mean you cannot be considered a "meteorologist". I point to myself as an example. I do not hold a degree in meteorology but due to the training I have received I can put out what is known as a "flight movement forecast". That means that if I don't agree with the TAF at the destination airfield I can write my own based on information I gather from approved sources and dispatch or continue the flight based on that. I have to be right within limits but not having a degree in meteorology doesn't mean I can't do it or that in that role I am not being a "meteorologist" per se. Shockingly, that is just what the vast majority of broadcast weather people do for their localities. If you want a job with NOAA then the degree helps but taking the raw data and deciphering how it will form a weather pattern does not take a degree. Experience is probably more key. Big Al does have the AMS seal which means that someone somewhere feels that he has been pretty good at his forecasts, or as they call it, atmospheric dispersion modeling.

Wow talk about lowering the standards, how long before Al is introducing a Hannah Montana live shot on the Weather Channel??.

I am not a fan of his always cheerful way of mugging his way through the Today Show.

Nichole gets busy this time of the year so her showing on the weather channel will be sparse.

Nichole ("hole" ?) "gets busy"? How's that? Is that a reference to her being in the AF?

I think Al is a legit meterologist. I know he did weather for quite a while in Cleveland, and I think he had the seal back then.

Yep, she is an officer and part of the Hurricane Hunter group out of, or at least it used to be out of, Keesler AFB in Biloxi MS.

The AMS seal doesn't make you a meteorologist, only a degree from a University could do that. What it does say is that his forecasts and his ability to take the raw data and correctly deduce what will most likely happen fall within the guidelines of that Society. As I argued above, the degree give you a piece of paper that says "credibility" but you don't necessarily have to have that to be able to accurately predict the weather.
