Airbus Closes Chinese Final Assembly Line Over Coronavirus Fears
Amid continued fears for health and safety in China due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, Airbus has taken the decision to close its only assembly line in the country. The final assembly line in Tianjin produces A320-family aircraft, and has now been closed. Airbus has not given a date for its reopening.

Breaking: Pegasus Boeing 737 Snaps Into Three Landing In Istanbul
A Boeing 737-800 operated by Pegasus Airlines has skidded off the runway and snapped into three pieces at Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen airport.
According to Turkey’s transport minister, there have been no fatalities recorded so far but it is believed that several people have been injured. The airport has been closed. The incident is thought to have been caused by a rough landing due to wet weather.

Qatar Airways has become the first airline in the Middle East to cancel its flights to mainland China – but the Doha-based airline made it clear that the decision wasn’t because it was putting the health and safety of its crew and passengers ahead of business.  Instead, it all comes down to new entry restrictions that more and more countries are imposing on anyone (including aircrew) who has been to mainland China.

Qatar Airways Still Interested In Doubling LATAM Ownership Share
Qatar Airways is still looking to increase its stake in LATAM Airlines Group to 20%, said Akbar al-Baker, CEO of the carrier.
The objective of Qatar Airways is to have an equal stake with Delta Air Lines in LATAM. The American carrier acquired 20% of LATAM last September. That month, the carrier announced it would invest 1,900 million USD.

United Airlines Purchases Its Own Flight Training Academy
Today, United Airlines announced that it has signed an agreement to purchase the Westwind School of Aeronautics in Phoenix, Arizona. This will help with the carrier’s plans of hiring over 10,000 pilots by 2029.

Flair Airlines, a Canadian ultra-low-cost carrier, has announced a new ‘all you can fly’ pass. The pass, to be offered throughout the spring, costs from under $500 and allows travel for 90 days from February 13th to May 13th, 2020.

Cathay Pacific To End Fifth Freedom Vancouver - New York Flight Early
Cathay Pacific announced that it is cutting its fifth freedom flight from New York (JFK) to Vancouver early, leaving less than two weeks for flyers to experience this journey. Originally announced to end on 28 March 2020, the 24-year-old route will now end on 18 February 2020, as reported by One Mile at a Time.

Qatar Could Change African Aviation With A Stake In RwandAir
Qatar Airways has big plans for Africa. Having already bought a 60% stake in the new Kigali Airport, the Middle East airline now has its sights set on something more, well, airline-ish. Qatar is reported by Reuters to be in talks to buy as much as 49% of RwandAir, the state-owned airline of Rwanda.

Cathay Pacific is asking all of its employees to take three weeks of unpaid leave. The move reveals how hard a perfect storm of external factors is buffeting the Hong Kong based airline.
The airline has 27,000 employees and wants them all to take voluntary unpaid leave for three weeks over the second quarter of 2020. The request includes senior management.
