The very last wings of the Airbus A380 will roll out of the UK’s Broughton factory in the first half of this year. As the program inches towards cessation, employees at the giant factory await news of their fate. Airbus says it has not yet made a decision on Broughton, but hopes to redeploy existing workers on other product lines.

SyberJet Expects Early 2021 Deliveries of SJ30i
SyberJet Aircraft is progressing toward amended type certification (TC) for the SJ30i SyberVision with the successful completion of aircraft control identification tests (ACID) in support of the development of a new autopilot for the light twinjet, it announced today. Additionally, the manufacturer continues to check off other avionics functional tests that are required for the SJ30i’s certification.

United To Complete Polaris Conversion On International Fleet By 2021
Last September, United starting operating its New York-London routes with its freshly reconfigured Boeing 767-300ERs. However, this revamp is one part of a wide-scale overhaul for the Chicago-based carrier. All of its intentional fleet is expected to be converted to hold Polaris cabins by the beginning of 2021.

Southwest Took At $800 Million Hit In 2019 From The MAX Crisis
During an earnings call on January 23rd, Southwest Chief Executive Gary Kelly told analysts that he is confident about the Boeing 737 MAX. He added that his airline’s pilots are also confident in the aircraft as well. In that same call, however, Kelly noted that 2019’s full-year operating profit was down 28%, or US$828 million less than if the grounded aircraft had been operational.

MD-83 Passengers Escape Injury As Plane Overruns Runway In Iran
It appears that passengers had a lucky escape in Iran early this morning. A Caspian Airlines MD-83 skidded off the end of the runway in Mahshahr. Initial reports are suggesting that none of the 135 passengers on board the aircraft were injured in the incident.

Aircraft Crashes In Taliban Controlled Afghanistan
An aircraft of unknown origin has crashed in Afghanistan. The aircraft, originally believed to be operated by Ariana Airlines when it came down near the Afghan capital of Kabul. However, later reports show images that suggest it was a Bombardier E-11A, on a mission for the US Air Force. The aircraft is said to have come down in a Taliban controlled area.

First Indian BrahMos Squadron Commissioned
The Indian Air Force (IAF) has commissioned its first squadron of Sukhoi Su-30MKIs equipped with the Mach 2.8 BrahMos-A (Air) supersonic anti-ship/cruise missile (PJ-10). No. 222 Squadron “Tigersharks” was inducted at Air Force Station Thanjavur in the southern state of Tamil Nadu on January 20.
