Boeing predicts need for 3,260 freighters by 2037
With air cargo traffic expected to double over the next 20 years, the global freighter fleet will need to expand by more than 70% to satisfy demand, from the current 1,870 aircraft to 3,260 in 2037.

The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) will probe Irish regional airline CityJet’s plans to place aircraft on long-term wet-lease with International Airlines Group (IAG) Irish carrier Aer Lingus.

Ryanair 1H profit down 7% on ATC strikes, higher costs
Ryanair’s first-half profit fell 7%, hit by lower fares, air traffic control strikes and higher fuel, staff and passenger compensation costs which offset growth in ancillary revenues.  The Irish LCC said the tough operating environment will lead to more airline failures this winter and it warned it could not rule out further Ryanair capacity cuts or base closures if oil prices rise or air fares fall further.

Delta plans Minneapolis-Shanghai daily A350 service in 2020
Delta Air Lines expects to launch daily nonstop service between Shanghai-Pudong Airport (PVG) and its Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) hub in June 2020.
The Atlanta-based carrier plans to use 306-seat Airbus A350-900s on the route—aircraft that are proving popular in the region. Delta has 10 of its 11 A350s flying in the Pacific—part of a revamp that included retiring its Boeing 747-400s.

CEO: Qatar Airways eyes US investment opportunities
Qatar Airways—which will begin double-daily Doha-New York JFK Airbus A350-1000 service Oct. 28—is looking into investment opportunities in the US, according to Group CEO Akbar Al Baker. The Doha-based airline is the launch customer for the type. Qatar’s A350-1000 has a 327-seat configuration with two cabins: 46 Qsuite business- and 281 economy-class seats.

Drone missed Heathrow-bound 787's engine by 10ft
UK investigators have disclosed that an unmanned aerial vehicle was flown within 10ft of a Boeing 787 on approach to London Heathrow.
The aircraft had been operating at 3,200ft on approach to runway 27L on 25 June, according to the UK Airprox Board.

US Navy launches first unmanned air vehicle test squadron
The US Navy commissioned its first unmanned air vehicle test and evaluation squadron in a ceremony on 18 October.
The new unit will be called Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 24 (UX-24) and will be based at Naval Air Station Patuxent River’s Webster Outlying Field near St. Inigoes, Maryland.
