DAE Capital closes eight leasing deals in 3Q; continues rapid expansion
Dubai Aerospace Enterprise’s (DAE) leasing arm, DAE Capital, completed eight leasing transactions in 3Q 2018 and closed an $800 million revolving loan facility during the quarter, the parent company said in a review of the period Oct. 11.

Lockheed lands low-profile launch customer for LM-100J
Pallas Aviation, a company apparently so low profile it lacks a website, will be launch operator of Lockheed Martin's LM-100J civilian airlifter in 2019, says Lockheed. Pallas will "provide operational control of two LM-100J aircraft requiring heavy-lift/oversized cargo capability into and out of unconventional airports and remote locations," Lockheed says in a media release.

Aviastar completes fuselage panels for first serial MC-21
Russian aerospace specialist Aviastar has completed production of a set of fuselage panels destined for the first serial Irkut MC-21. Several other structures are undergoing manufacture at the Ulyanovsk-based plant, including those for the auxiliary power unit section.

An Air India Express Boeing 737-800 was diverted to Mumbai Chhtrapati Shivaji International airport after one of its wheels hit the boundary wall of Tiruchirappalli International Airport on 12 October at 01:18 local time.

Delta unveils first A220 routes; four set for all-A220 service
Delta Air Lines will debut its Airbus A220-100s on flights to Boston Logan International (BOS) and Dallas/Fort Worth International (DFW) out of its New York LaGuardia (LGA) hub starting Jan. 31, 2019. The Atlanta-based carrier will steadily roll the newest narrowbodies out on other US domestic large-hub-to-large-hub routes throughout the summer.

PICTURES: SpiceJet gets its first Boeing 737 Max 8
SpiceJet has taken delivery of its first Boeing 737 Max 8, and anticipates significant fuel savings from the type. The aircraft is registered VT-MAX, and the low-cost carrier intends to use the narrowbody type to expand and standardise its fleet. At the same time, it expects fuel costs to be reduced by $1.5 million a year per aircraft.

SIA debuts A350-900ULR on Singapore-New York world’s longest route
Singapore Airlines (SIA) has relaunched the nonstop Singapore (SIN)-New York Newark service, the world’s longest commercial flight, with its Airbus A350-900 ultra-long-range (ULR) aircraft. According to SIA, the flight, SQ 22, departed Changi International Airport on Oct. 11 at 23:37 hrs. (SIN time) and arrived at Newark Liberty International Airport a day later, at 05:29 hrs. (US Eastern time).

European pilot group demands Ryanair reverse base closures
European pilots are calling for Irish LCC Ryanair to reverse its decision to close bases in Eindhoven in the Netherlands and Bremen in Germany, as well as to reduce the number of aircraft based at Niederrhein in Germany in order to ensure progress in talks with unions.

Lufthansa’s CityLine to begin Airbus A319 operations in 2019
Lufthansa Group is making another shift to its regional airline portfolio by transferring its Airbus A319s from Lufthansa mainline to Lufthansa CityLine, starting in 2019. The move became possible after Lufthansa CityLine and pilot union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) agreed on new labor conditions for their approximately 650 pilots, which is securing a new aircraft type at the regional carrier.

Alitalia unions urge development of long-haul network
Italian unions have welcomed progress on the future of Alitalia and called for attention to be focused on developing the carrier’s long-haul network, particularly flights to the US. Alitalia had been squeezed in its home market by fast-growing LCCs and declared bankruptcy in May 2017, kicking off a long-drawn out sale process that is still unresolved, with an Oct. 31 sale deadline looming.

CEO: AirBaltic A220-300 delivers higher-than-expected fuel savings
AirBaltic CEO Martin Gauss told ATW the Airbus A220-300 (former Bombardier CS300) has so far delivered higher-than-expected fuel savings. In addition, the launch operator has overcome many technical issues with the aircraft. The Latvian national carrier, which started scheduled services with the type in December 2016, has operated enough flights to see what the aircraft can do.

UK carrier Cello Aviation ceases trading
UK carrier Cello Aviation has ceased trading with immediate effect. The company was based at Birmingham and, according to the UK Civil Aviation Authority, operated a small fleet including a Boeing 737-300 and a BAE Systems Avro RJ100.

UK investigators are probing a recent EasyJet Airbus A319 departure from London Gatwick, after suspecting a take-off calculation error. The aircraft (OE-LQE) had taken off from Gatwick bound for Seville in Spain on 30 September.

Worldwide F-35 fleet grounded temporarily for inspections related to crash
The worldwide fleet of Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II aircraft was grounded for inspections after a problem with the aircraft’s engine fuel tube was discovered, which is believed to be related to the first crash of the stealth fighter a few weeks ago.
