Alaska to operate majority of new Paine Field flights
Alaska Airlines will operate more than half of the 24 planned commercial flights from Paine Field in Everett, Washington, when service commences early next year. The Seattle-based carrier plans to operate 13 daily flights to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Orange County, Portland (Oregon), San Diego, San Francisco and San Jose (California) with 76-seat Embraer 175 aircraft from the airport when it opens in 2019, a supplemental environmental statement released on 29 September shows.

Primera collapses before realising transatlantic ambitions
Leisure carrier Primera Air succumbed to financial pressure just a few months after the operator embarked on an ambitious expansion on transatlantic routes. Primera Air last year detailed plans to open North American services from several European cities, as the carrier reached agreements to modernise its fleet with Airbus A321neo and Boeing 737 Max jets.

Jetlines' new CEO envisions 'different kind of airline'
The new chief executive of Canadian company Jetlines is working to develop a tech-driven airline that takes inspiration from some of the world's leading technology companies. Javier Suarez, who became CEO in September, is also reevaluating Jetlines' network plans amid a goal to get airborne next spring.

United adds nine 787-9s to orderbook
United Airlines has ordered nine more Boeing 787-9s, bringing its backlog for the type to 13 aircraft. The jets will be used to replace older widebodies in United's fleet when they begin arriving in 2020, says the US carrier.

Air Niugini confident missing passenger evacuated 737
Air Niugini insists there is evidence that a missing passenger from the Boeing 737-800 which undershot on approach to Chuuk did safely exit the jet. Thirty-five passengers and, unusually, 12 crew members had been on board the aircraft when it came down during its approach on 28 September, coming to rest 145m from the runway.

LATAM A321 lands on wrong Sao Paulo runway
Brazilian investigators are probing an incident in which a LATAM Airlines Airbus A321 touched down on the wrong runway at Sao Paulo Guarulhos airport. The aircraft (PT-MXH) had been “authorised” to land on runway 27L during its arrival on 26 September, says the Brazilian accident investigation agency CENIPA.

Air Force One replica lands near Washington DC
A replica of Air Force One landed on the shores of the Potomac River south of Washington DC today, part of a new democracy-focused exhibit. The Boeing 747-200 (MSN 20712), which has been painted and refurbished to look and feel like Boeing's VC-25 presidential transport, flew for Evergreen International Airlines for more than two decades before being parked in 2013.

Tokyo Century and ANA to buy out BoA stake in GA Telesis
Tokyo Century and All Nippon Airways Trading have agreed to purchase a 39% stake in US aftermarket services provider GA Telesis from a Bank of America subsidiary. Under the deal, which is set to close by the end of October, ANA Trading will pick up a 10% stake in GA Telesis while Tokyo Century's holding will rise to 49.2%.

Eurowings Europe crews agree to labor contract
Vienna-based Lufthansa LCC subsidiary Eurowings Europe and trade union Vida have agreed on a contract for cockpit and cabin crews, retroactive to March 1. The agreement includes a comprehensive package of additional benefits and up to 20% increases in base salary for flight attendants. In addition, bonuses of up to 25% of the base salary are possible depending on the financial success of the company.

Air France HR head to leave in latest executive departure
Air France’s head of human resources Gilles Gateau is leaving the company on Oct. 12, marking the second executive departure in less than a week for the airline, which has been locked in a turbulent pay dispute with its workforce for months.

Russia’s passenger traffic up 10% in January-August period
Russian airlines carried 77.3 million passengers from the January-August 2018 period, up 10% year-over-year (YOY). International traffic grew 10.3% YOY to 31.4 million; domestic traffic was up 9.7% YOY to 45.9 million. Load factor was up 0.6-point YOY to 84.3%. Load factor on international flights was down 0.6% YOY to 85.5%, while load factor on domestic flights was up 2 points to 83%.

Russia’s Azur Air moves operations to Moscow Vnukovo airport
Russian charter carrier Azur Air plans to transfer flights from Moscow Domodedovo Airport to Moscow Vnukovo International from Oct. 1. The carrier said the relocation—driven by better accessibility—will take a month as it needs to organize ground handling processes and integrate its IT network with the airport’s IT system. The carrier will first move its Boeing 737-800 fleet, then its 757-200s. The long-haul fleet—767s and 777s—will be transferred at the end of the month.

Turkish Airlines, flybmi to codeshare
Turkish Airlines and UK-based regional carrier flybmi have signed a codeshare agreement to improve access to each other’s networks. The UK airline said the deal would allow its passengers in the UK and Ireland to fly to Istanbul from London Heathrow, Manchester and Dublin on Turkish Airlines’ aircraft.

Norwegian to launch initial Argentinian routes
LCC Norwegian will start operations on six domestic routes in Argentina over the next three months, the carrier announced Oct. 1. The airline’s initial services will be from Buenos Aires Aeroparque Jorge Newbery to Córdoba and Mendoza (Oct. 16); Iguazú and Neuquén (Nov. 19); and to Bariloche and Salta (Dec. 3).

F-35Bs make debut appearance aboard UK aircraft carrier
Preparations to restore the UK Royal Navy's lapsed carrier strike capability took a major step forward on 25 September, with the arrival of two Lockheed Martin F-35Bs for embarked testing aboard HMS Queen Elizabeth.

British Airways will launch 4X-weekly Heathrow-Osaka Boeing 787-8 service from March 31, 2019.

Delta Air Lines will begin daily Detroit, Michigan-Honolulu Boeing 767-300ER service from June 29, 2019.

Delta Air Lines will begin daily seasonal Boston-Lisbon, Portugal Boeing 757 service from March 23-Sept. 3, 2019.

EgyptAir Cargo, launch customer for the Airbus A330-P2F converted freighter, began operations with a 3X-weekly service between Cairo and Cologne-Bonn Airport, Germany. EgyptAir plans to add Johannesburg, South Africa, to destinations served by the type from October. The A330-200P2F replaces an Airbus A300-600F previously deployed by Egyptair on the route. With a maximum payload of 61 tonnes, the A330-200P2F can carry about 25% more cargo than its predecessor.

Bangkok-based Thai VietJet will start daily Bangkok-Da Nang (Vietnam) Airbus A320 family services Oct. 15. The carrier also launch 5X-weekly Bangkok-Taichung (Taiwan) A320/321 service Nov. 3.
