ATR sees strong demand for aircraft in Asia-Pacific
E-commerce, overcrowded routes and new tourism demographics are just a few of the reasons behind strong demands for ATR aircraft in the Asia-Pacific region. ATR sales director Laurent Janitza told ATW the Franco-Italian turboprop manufacturer has received an increased number of requests for information and discussions from more airlines in recent years.

Boeing: Asia-Pacific to have highest growth rate for aviation workers
A rapid expansion in aircraft fleets is expected to give the Asia-Pacific region the highest growth rate for all types of aviation workers over the next 20 years, according to a new Boeing report. The manufacturer predicts Asia-Pacific will account for 33% of global demand for pilots, as well as 34% of technicians and 36% of cabin crewmembers.

Boeing lowers forecast for global pilot, technician demand
Boeing forecasts that 635,000 new commercial airline pilots will be required globally between 2018 and 2037, down slightly from last year's projection of 637,000.

Icelandair lowers full-year guidance again; CEO resigns
Icelandair president & CEO Björgólfur Jóhannsson resigned Aug. 27 as the group further lowered its EBITDA guidance for 2018 to $80-$100 million, down by about 50% since the beginning of the year.

Spohr: Lufthansa Group largely responsible for travel disruption
Lufthansa Group CEO Carsten Spohr said his company accepts “a large share” of responsibility for the disruptions in German air traffic this summer. “We have to admit that we have been working in 110% mode. The company is in overload,” he said at a Lufthansa event Aug. 27.

Chinese LCC Capital Airlines A320 damaged in emergency landing
A Capital Airlines Airbus A320, en route from Beijing Capital Airport to Macau International Airport, lost its nose gear wheels and sustained severe engine damage in a landing attempt at Macau Aug. 28. The aircraft was then diverted to Shenzhen Airport where all 157 passengers and nine crewmembers were evacuated safely.

California Pacific Airlines to launch Carlsbad-based regional service

SpiceJet operates India's first biofuel flight
Indian low-cost carrier SpiceJet says it has operated the country's first flight using biofuel on 27 August. SpiceJet deployed a Bombardier Q400 on the Dehradun-Delhi route, which carried a blend of air turbine fuel (75%) and biofuel (25%).

KLM to delay the retirement of its Boeing 747-400 fleet
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines currently operates a dozen Boeing 747-400 Jumbos. The carrier is due to receive seven new Airbus A350-900 aircraft from the Air France-KLM order for 25 of the type. The A350s and new Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners will replace the final 747s in the fleet.
