Atlas Air Worldwide 2Q net profit up 89%; adds Hong Kong Air Cargo
Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings—parent company of Atlas Air, Polar Air Cargo, Southern Air and Titan Aviation—reported a second-quarter 2017 net profit of $38.9 million, up 88.8% over net income of $20.6 million in the 2016 June quarter.

Lufthansa Group 1H net profit up 56.6%
Lufthansa Group delivered a first-half net profit of €672 million ($766.7 million), up 56.6% from a net profit of €429 million a year ago.
The German carrier said the results were primarily attributed to strong demand and lower unit costs at the group’s passenger airlines. “We have achieved the best first half-year result in our company’s history,” CFO Ulrik Svensson said.

Air India boss says carrier 'not financially viable'
Air India believes it is an "operationally viable" airline as compared to two years ago, but is still concerned about its financial situation.
In a televised interview, airline chairman and managing director Ashwani Lohani says that despite making an operating profit of Rs1.05 billion ($15.7 million) for the 2016 financial year and forecasting that it operating profit will grow threefold in its next financial year, the carrier's financial situation "has not stabilised at all".

BOC Aviation firms up 737 Max 10 order
Singapore-based lessor BOC Aviation has firmed up its commitment to order 10 Boeing 737 Max 10s made at the Paris air show in June.The deal is valued at $1.25 billion at list prices, with deliveries commencing in 2021.

Indian report slams Il-76 availability rate
A report by India’s comptroller and auditor general (CAG) has highlighted the poor serviceability of 14 Ilyushin Il-76MD heavy transports and six Il-78 tankers operated by the nation's air force. According to a CAG report, average serviceability of the Il-76 and Il-78 fleet in the period from 2010-2016 was 38% and 49%, respectively. The required average figure for both types is set at 70%.

Three Philippine C-130s to get avionics upgrade
Manila plans to upgrade the avionics of three Lockheed Martin C-130 transport aircraft. The upgrade will involve converting the cockpit from analogue to digital, and integrating a glass cockpit that includes touch screen displays, says the country's air force in a statement. Flight Fleets Analyzer shows that the Philippines operates five C-130s: one C-130B, two C-130Hs, and two C-130Ts. The average age of these aircraft is 40.2 years.

Australia's spy agency downgrades aviation threat after bomb plot arrests
Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said on Thursday the country's intelligence agency had downgraded the threat level to aviation after an alleged "Islamic-inspired" plot to bring down a plane was uncovered and disrupted. Four men were arrested in raids in several suburbs in Sydney, Australia's largest city, at the weekend and held without charge under special terror-related powers. One man has since been released.
