A350-1000 takes off on maiden flight Airbus has commenced the flight-test campaign for the A350-1000 with the variant becoming airborne for the first time at Toulouse. The aircraft, powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines, lifted off at 10:42 local time. Link
Bliss Jet readies scheduled business jet transatlantic launch US start-up operator Bliss Jet is preparing to launch a scheduled service on 8 January between New York and London using Gulfstream G450 and G550 business jets. The service – which will connect New York LaGuardia with London Stansted airport – is targeted at business- and first-class airline passengers who are looking for a convenient and upmarket alternative to the transatlantic carriers. CS300 and CS100 awarded common type rating The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Transport Canada have awarded both variants of the Bombardier CSeries a common type rating. The rating reflects high commonality between the CS100 and CS300, and will provide operators with significant cost savings, says Bombardier. Link

Kenya Airways CEO Ngunze Resigns Kenya Airways’ chief executive Mbuvi Ngunze has resigned and will leave the airline early next year. Chairman Michael Joseph said “Today, Mbuvi is announcing that he will be leaving KQ effective first-quarter 2017.” After five years he “felt it was a natural point in the company’s evolution to pass on the baton.” Link
Lufthansa Pilot Strike Extended Into Saturday Lufthansa pilot union Vereinigung Cockpit has extended strike action for another day, to midnight Saturday, but only for long-haul flights. The union, which had extended its original stop work on Wednesday by two further 24 hour periods, has added a Saturday 00:01 to 23:59 strike on long-haul flights. Link
TUI Approves Etihad Joint Venture Airline European tour company TUI is to go ahead with its plans to create a new European airline with Abu Dhabi’s Etihad. The TUI board approved the plan to merge its TUIfly airline with leisure operations of Etihad part-owned carrier Air Berlin. Link

Ugraded Jaguar achieves Indian IOC The Indian air force has declared initial operation clearance for the latest avionics upgrade to its Sepecat Jaguar attack aircraft.
