Air Baltic Routes
AirBaltic will introduce eight new routes for the 2017 summer season, beginning March 26, 2017. Routes include 3X-weekly Riga-Geneva, Switzerland from May 4, 2017; 3X-weekly Riga-Aberdeen, UK from May 2, 2017; 3X-weekly Riga-Stavanger, Norway from May 2, 2017; 6X-weekly Riga-Gothenburg, Sweden from June 1, 2017; 6X-weekly Riga-Tampere, Finland from March 26, 2017; 1X-weekly Riga-Catania, Italy from May 4, 2017; 4X-weekly Vilnius-Paris, France, March 26, 2017; and 3X-weekly Vilnius-Munich, Germany from March 27, 2017.

American makes adjustments to business class
American Airlines is making enhancements across its fleet to focus on innovation, safety and passenger comfort in its business-class cabins. American will utilize five business-class cabins across its long-haul fleet.

Delta to launch DCA-LAX 757 flights in 2017
Delta Air Lines will launch daily Washington National (DCA)-Los Angeles (LAX) service starting April 24, 2017. The Atlanta-based airline will use a Boeing 757-200 featuring 16 lie-flat business-class seats on the route.

Emirates Airlines
Emirates Airline launched daily Airbus A380 services from Dubai to Guangzhou, China and Moscow, Russia from Oct. 1.

Etihad strengthens African connections
United Arab Emirates flag carrier Etihad Airways has increased links to Africa with the signing of a codeshare agreement with South African low-cost carrier (LCC) kulula. The codeshare, which becomes effective Oct. 30, will see Etihad placing its EY code on flights to several kulula services from Johannesburg to the South African cities of Cape Town, Durban, George and East London.

Juneyao Airlines To Join Star Alliance
China’s Juneyao Airlines will join the Star Alliance as a connecting partner in 2017, the global airline alliance said in Shanghai. Under the agreement, Juneyao will offer through check-in, lounge access and other privileges to qualifying passengers on other Star Alliance member airlines.

Icelandair
Icelandair will launch 4X-weekly direct flights from Reykjavik (KEF) to Philadelphia (PHL) on May 30, 2017 through Sept. 20, and 2X-weekly KEF-Tampa (TPA) from Sept. 7, 2017.

LATAM Airlines Brasil and Cathay Pacific Airways
LATAM Airlines Brasil and Cathay Pacific Airways entered into a codeshare agreement, offering passengers increased connectivity between South America and Asia. LATAM Airlines Brasil will be able to offer a LATAM “JJ” flight code on all flights operated by Cathay Pacific Airways between New York (JFK) and Hong Kong (HKG). Cathay Pacific will be able to offer a “CX” flight code on all flights operated by LATAM Airlines Brasil on the following routes: São Paulo (GRU)-London (LHR)-GRU; GRU- Paris (CDG)-GRU; Rio de Janeiro (GIG)-JFK-GIG; and GRU-JFK-GRU

LOT Polish Airlines
LOT Polish Airlines will launch 3X-weekly flights from Warsaw to Newark, New Jersey from April 28, 2017. In June, service will be increased to 4X-weekly. The Newark-Warsaw flights will be initially operated by a leased Boeing 767-300 in two classes—business and economy. Beginning in August, the route will be operated by Boeing 787 in a three-class configuration—business, premium economy and economy.

SWISS to fly Boeing 777s to Miami, San Francisco
Lufthansa Group carrier Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) will introduce the Boeing 777-300ER onto existing services to Miami and San Francisco from Oct. 30 for the upcoming 2016-17 winter schedules. From Oct. 30, the route will use the 777-300ER on one of its two Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday flights

Turkish Airlines defers 39 A321neo & 737 MAX deliveries
Istanbul-based Turkish Airlines will defer 39 narrowbody deliveries from a 167-strong Airbus and Boeing aircraft order because of decreased demand resulting from a series of terrorist bombings and other economic challenges in Turkey. The Star Alliance member reported to the Borsa Istanbul stock exchange Oct. 7 that it has decided to reschedule deliveries of some of its 92 Airbus A321neo, 65 Boeing 737 MAX 8 and 10 737 MAX 9 aircraft that were planned to enter the fleet between 2018-2022.

ADP Sells Airport Operator OMA Stake
Aéroports de Paris has completed the sale of its 4.3 percent stake in Mexican airport operator OMA. The equity interest stake sale in Grupo Aeroportuario Centro Norte (OMA) was through an international private placement, ADP said. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

London’s Gatwick Airport points to growth as runway decision looms
London Gatwick Airport said Oct. 10 it had passed passenger and destination milestones far in advance of official predictions, as it continues a fight to win the planned new runway for the congested South East of England. A final UK government decision is expected within days as to where the new runway will be situated. An Airports Commission report last year strongly favored the construction of a third runway at London Heathrow Airport.

Chinese investment group buys Albanian airport
Hong Kong-based investment holding and asset management company China Everbright Limited (CEL) has purchased the entire stock issue of Albania’s Tirana International Airport (TIA). Since 2005 the airport serving the Albanian capital has been in the hands of German, US and Albanian shareholders, who have invested some €70 million ($78 million) to improve facilities.

Poland picks Black Hawks after end of H225M talks
Sikorsky’s Polish subsidiary PZL Mielec already appears to be benefiting from the collapse of acquisition talks between its rival Airbus Helicopters and the Warsaw government. Last week the country’s ministry of economic development ended nearly 18 months of protracted wrangling over a 50-unit commitment for H225M Caracal helicopters. It cited irreconcilable differences about the level of industrial offset proposed, which it said needed to equal the Zl13 billion ($3.4 billion) of the main contract.

USAF taps Boeing to select new F-15 sensor supplier
The US Air Force has delegated to Boeing the task of selecting a supplier for a $198 million upgrade of the F-15C/D that will enable the twin-engined fighter to detect at long range the heat generated by an aircraft engine. The proposed acquisition of 132 infrared search and track (IRST) sensors, including 100 for active duty squadrons, 25 for the Air National Guard and eight test assets, follows the delegation approach the USAF also used to upgrade the radars on the F-15E.

Afghans could receive four more Embraer A-29s
The Afghan Air Force could receive four more Embraer A-29 light attack turboprop aircraft, adding to 20 already on contract, the US Air Force says in a new contracting notice. The four aircraft would be assembled by Embraer at the company’s Jacksonville, Florida, facility, but the prime contractor could change.
