Boeing won't raise 787 production unless market demands it
Boeing Co said on Wednesday it will not increase 787 output unless sales improve, its clearest indication yet that its large jetliner production may have peaked for now. "If the market's not going to demand it, we're not going to go," Chief Financial Officer Greg Smith said on the sidelines of an investor conference in New York organized by global investment bank Jefferies, confirming remarks made during the formal program.

BAE proposes new RJ Freighter
BAE Systems Regional Aircraft (BARA) is working on a new freighter conversion of the Avro RJ regional jet following a year’s work on developing the concept. The company said Aug. 10 that it would require commitments for 10 of the type for the project to be launched. There is already a freighter version of the earlier BAe 146 regional jet. Compared to earlier aircraft, the RJ has updated Honeywell LF507-1F engines plus a glass cockpit and is cleared to a higher operational ceiling (35,000 ft. compared to the BAe 146’s 31,000 ft.).

Air Berlin Second Quarter Losses Widen
Air Berlin reported a bigger second quarter loss of EUR€89.1 million as revenue fell on reduced capacity and pressure on ticket prices. The EUR€89.1 million loss was down from the EUR€37.5 million loss in the same period last year.

Reborn Air Djibouti's first 737 gets airborne
The first aircraft to be operated by the revived Air Djibouti left Cardiff airport in Wales on 9 August, with the Boeing 737-400 sporting the operator's red and white livery. Online tracking data shows the narrowbody (registration: 9H-VVB) as having completed a 2h 10min flight to Olbia airport in Sardinia, before flying another 1h leg to Luqa International in Malta. It is due to be flown to Djibouti on 11 August, and to commence revenue services four days later.

Shares of American Airlines show uptick
American Airlines announced it expects a smaller quarterly decline in revenue per available seat mile, sending shares 0.7% higher in Tuesday trading. The carrier also reported a 1.2% increase in July traffic on a year-over-year basis.

American Airlines offers free in-flight entertainment

American Airlines now offers complimentary in-flight entertainment, including recently released movies and television shows such as "Game of Thrones." The free in-flight entertainment is available on around 300 planes equipped with seat-back monitors.

Delta To Cancels 90 Flights On Wednesday
Delta cancelled 775 flights on Tuesday as it moved towards normal operations after the power outage that caused system-wide disruption. Delta said in a statement that the outlook for Wednesday is positive, with about 90 cancellations expected at the beginning of the day leading to normal operations later.

JetBlue CEO discusses leadership, premium service expansion
Robin Hayes, CEO of JetBlue Airways, said the airline is investing in the customer experience. "The new cabins we're creating have improved in-flight entertainment, bigger screens, more channels, more movies, new ergonomically designed seats," he said.

KLM Pilots Union Threatens Legal Action
The Dutch Airline Pilots Association VNV has threatened to take KLM to court if the airline doesn't implement an agreement on pensions. The confrontation is over the indexation of pilots’ pension entitlements in line with inflation.

First ship to leave MH370 search as suspension looms
One of the three vessels involved in the underwater search for the missing Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777-200 that operated flight MH370 will be released from search efforts, ahead of the search's likely suspension. The Joint Agency Co-ordination Centre (JACC) says in a statement that Fugro Discovery will depart from the search area on 11 August to “transit to Singapore to be readied for its next project, unrelated to the search for MH370.”

PIA A320 in Islamabad runway excursion
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) says one of its aircraft veered off the runway at Islamabad airport on 8 August. FlightRadar 24 shows that the aircraft was an Airbus A320-200, registered AP-BLA, was operating flight PK-451 from Islamabad to Skardu when it developed hydraulics problems and had to return to Islamabad. The aircraft landed at 13:35 local time.

Ryanair passenger pursues pushed-back plane
A passenger who believed he had missed his Ryanair flight from Madrid’s Barajas Airport took matters into his own hands in his attempts to travel to Gran Canaria, one of the Canary Islands off the northwest coast of Africa. Cameras caught the passenger, whose nationality is unknown, jumping off the end of an airbridge onto the apron at the Spanish capital’s airport, apparently after breaking through a door to get onto the jetty.

Southwest Airlines posts higher traffic in July
Southwest Airlines posted a 1.4% increase in revenue passenger miles for July as compared to the same month last year. The carrier also reported a load factor of 86.9% for the month.

Cassandra Gess, a customer service supervisor in Nashville, Tenn., exemplifies the carrier's principles. "If I'm doing right by my Customers, I'm also doing right by my Company, both of which are very important to me," she said.

Spring Airlines to expand fleet by 2018
Shanghai-based low-cost carrier (LCC) Spring Airlines plans to expand its fleet to 100 aircraft by 2018 to meet growing market demand, according to chairman Wang Zhenghua. The LCC operates 61 Airbus A320 family aircraft and is scheduled to take delivery of more than 10 aircraft in 2017 and 2018.

Philadelphia airport launches new amenity for pets
Philadelphia International Airport introduced a new amenity for pets -- seven indoor pet-relief areas with fake grass. The airport joins hundreds of other airports in the US complying with a new federal law mandating such areas for service dogs.

Lockheed flight tests Dual Mode Plus Paveway II
Lockheed Martin has carried out two test flights of a developmental "Dual Mode Plus" configuration of the Paveway II laser-guided bomb, using a Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. Flight testing took place from China Lake in California with the US Naval Air Warfare Center’s Weapons Division, and used two Dual Mode Plus guidance kits integrated with unguided 226kg (500lb) Mk 82 warheads. The munitions were deployed against fixed targets, and operated “within operational performance requirements”, the company says.

Air Force opens up JDAM options amid high demand for weapons
The US Air Force could explore alternative contractors to satisfy its insatiable need for all-weather, smart munitions, even as the service has called its primary joint direct attack munition supplier, Boeing, to produce more of the weapons. The service is surveying the market to determine whether another source could provide the JDAMs for the US Air Force, Navy and foreign military customers, according to a 5 August sources sought notice for JDAM production lots 23 posted on the US Federal Business Opportunities website.
