Excluding special items that included a $3 billion non-cash benefit related to tax valuation, American earned a net profit of $6.3 billion in 2015, up 50% over net income of $4.2 billion excluding special items in 2014. “It’s hard to imagine that just two years ago American Airlines was just emerging from bankruptcy,” chairman and CEO Doug Parker told analysts and reporters.

By August, six 777s should be in service, with three more expected by 2018. The aircraft will be used to replace some of the carrier’s 15 Airbus A340-300s.

LinkUnited to launch first direct US-Singapore flights since 2013United Airlines plans to revive a direct link between the US and Singapore when it launches San Francisco-Singapore Boeing 787-9 flights on June 1. The daily service, subject to regulatory approval, will be the first direct route flown by an airline between any US city and Singapore since Singapore Airlines dropped its flights from Singapore to Newark and Los Angeles in 2013 when it retired its Airbus A340-500 fleet.
