BOC Aviation orders 30 Airbus A320s
Singapore-based leasing company BOC Aviation (BOC) has placed an order for 18 Airbus A320neos and 12 A320ceos, valued at more than $3 billion at list prices. BOC Aviation CEO Robert Martin said the order reflects the popularity of A320s among short- and medium-haul operators.

Boeing commercial aircraft deliveries up 5.4% in 2015
Boeing delivered 762 commercial aircraft in 2015, up 5.4% from 723 aircraft delivered in 2014, according to a statement from the US manufacturer. Boeing said its Next-Generation 737 program set a new annual delivery record in 2015, with 495 of the single-aisle aircraft delivered, up 2.1% from 2014. The Next-Generation 737 family dominated Boeing’s delivery total for the year.

Air China To Buy Six Boeing 777-300ERs
Air China will purchase six Boeing 777-300ERs, in an order worth USD$2.05 billion at list prices. Air China, the country's biggest airline by market value, and its wholly owned import and export subsidiary signed the deal with Boeing.

Air France to retire Boeing 747 operations with final flight Jan. 10
Air France will end more than 40 years of Boeing 747 operations with a final commercial flight from Mexico City to Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG) on Jan. 10. The French flag carrier will conduct two tribute 747 flights over France and several landmarks on Jan. 14 to and from Paris CDG.

Azul takes final E195-E1 in special livery
Brazil's Azul has taken delivery of its final current generation Embraer E-Jet, with a E195 painted in a special livery commemorating its partnership with live TV provider SKY. The aircraft, registration PR-AUQ, entered revenue service today.

Etihad Seeks More Time For Disputed Code-shares
Etihad has asked a German court for more time to continue code-sharing with Air Berlin on 29 routes while it appeals a decision that will block it from operating the flights after January 15. A court in Brunswick last week said Etihad may not continue to jointly sell tickets for 29 routes operated by Air Berlin, in which Etihad owns a 29 percent stake, because they were not covered by the current air traffic rights agreement between Germany and the United Arab Emirates.

N.Y.-based charter service approved for flights to Cuba
ExcelAire, a charter service based in Ronkonkoma, N.Y., has been authorized by the Federal Aviation Administration to fly to Cuba from 19 US cities. The US government has been gradually allowing more flights to Cuba, and operators are now allowed to keep aircraft in the country for up to a week.

Frontier adds 42 routes, increasing network connectivity
Denver-based ultra low-cost carrier (ULCC) Frontier Airlines unveiled a nationwide expansion in which it will add 42 new routes in April. The expansion increases connectivity to cities already in the airline’s network. “Frontier’s low fares in these new markets will benefit millions of new fliers who are forced to drive because they haven’t found affordable air travel options—or they simply stay at home,” president Barry Biffle said in a statement. “We see hundreds of additional opportunities like these throughout the country, fueling our growth for years to come.”

Garuda hands over 737 to Indonesian air force
Garuda Indonesia has sold a Boeing 737-500 to the Indonesian air force. Garuda chief executive Arif Wibowo handed the aircraft over to Indonesian air force chief Air Marshall Agus Supriatna in a ceremony held at the Halim air force base near Jakarta on 7 January.

Hong Kong Airlines Launches New Service
Commencing on 27 February 2016, Hong Kong Airlines, an internationally-acclaimed full-service airline, will officially launch thrice-weekly flight service to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. An all-economy class Airbus A320 aircraft will be deployed on the Phnom Penh route.

United Fined Over Treatment Of Disabled, Tarmac Delays
The US Transportation Department has fined United Airlines USD$2.75 million for breaking rules protecting passengers with disabilities, and prohibiting long tarmac delays. The airline was also ordered not to break those rules in future, the department said in a statement.

United CEO Oscar Munoz gets heart transplant
Oscar Munoz, the CEO of United Airlines, had a heart transplant Wednesday. Munoz took medical leave in October after experiencing a heart attack. United said Munoz plans to return to work by the end of March.

WestJet reports December load factor
WestJet today announced December 2015 traffic results with a load factor of 79.2 per cent. Revenue passenger miles (RPMs), or traffic, increased 3.9 per cent year over year, and capacity, measured in available seat miles (ASMs), grew 6.1 per cent over the same period.

France to take six additional NH90 helicopters
France has ordered six additional NHIndustries NH90 troop transport helicopters for its army, increasing the service’s eventual inventory to 74. Deliveries of the 11t-class rotorcraft are due to take place between 2017 and 2019.

US reportedly sends WC-135 to investigate N. Korea's hydrogen bomb test claim
Reports say the US sent a WC-135 Constant Phoenix aircraft to investigate North Korea's claim that the country set off a hydrogen bomb underground. The derivative of a Boeing C-135, also called a "sniffer plane" or "weather bird," can detect radiation from such a detonation.

New Mooney carbon fiber trainer takes off
A year after Mooney announced its M10T carbon fiber trainer, the company completed the first flight of the aircraft at its headquarters in California on Dec. 23. "Our team of engineers have been working very hard to reach this day, and we are excited to have achieved this milestone in 2015," said CEO Jerry Chen.

Cessna ceases production of CJ2+
Cessna Aircraft has not delivered a new Citation CJ2+ since 2014, and it is no longer listed in the Citation product lineup. A spokesperson for Textron Aviation has confirmed that the aircraft is no longer in production.
