Airbus Set To Win 2015 Order Race
Airbus orders topped 1,000 aircraft between January and November, putting the European plane maker on track to win the annual order race against Boeing. Airbus has received orders for 169 aircraft in November, to bring the total of gross orders so far this year to 1,079.

Boeing Considering 737 Freighter Conversions
Boeing is looking at offering conversions of the 737-800 to freighters in a move aimed at express parcel firms. The proposal emerged weeks after Airbus relaunched plans to offer conversions of its competing A320, forging a partnership with Singapore's ST Aerospace after an earlier Russian-backed effort stalled on costs and jet values.

Air Dolomiti considers joining Lufthansa’s Eurowings concept
Lufthansa subsidiary Air Dolomiti is evaluating being a part of the Eurowings concept. The Italian regional carrier provides point-to-point service and operates as a Munich hub feeder for Lufthansa. “We want to change and we are studying being a part of the Lufthansa Wings concept; we will hopefully find a solution before Christmas,” CEO Jörg Eberhart said.

American Airlines exec discusses fleet strategy
Robert Isom, executive vice president and chief operating officer of American Airlines, said the carrier's newer fleet will allow for less maintenance. "It's ultimately an efficiency advantage in terms of fuel burn, in terms of maintenance that our competitors don't have, and it's something we're going to be able to claim as an advantage well into the future," Isom said.

Emirates to retire over 50 jets in next three years
Middle Eastern carrier Emirates is to take delivery of 20 Airbus A380s and 16 Boeing 777-300ERs in 2016 as part of a modernisation which includes withdrawing over 50 jets in the next three years. The Dubai-based carrier is removing 26 aircraft next year alone, among them 12 Airbus A330s and five A340s plus nine 777s – mainly older -200ERs and -300s.

Korean Air A321neos take Airbus net orders past 1,000
Airbus has exceeded 1,000 net orders for 2015 after securing several large single-aisle agreements during November. Korean Air has formally signed for 30 A321neo jets, having disclosed a tentative deal for the aircraft during the Paris air show.

Qatar 777 collision probe focuses on intersection riddle
Investigators have revealed that a departing Qatar Airways Boeing 777-300ER overran the runway at Miami airport before becoming airborne and striking approach lights as it climbed away. The inquiry into the accident has disclosed that the captain chose to depart from the T1 intersection of runway 09 despite carrying out the calculations for a full-length runway departure, and despite a prohibition on intersection take-offs from this runway.

Wild pigs trigger SpiceJet runway excursion
A SpiceJet Bombardier Q400 with 53 passengers and crew on board suffered a runway excursion and emergency evacuation after hitting a pack of wild pigs on landing at India’s Jabalpur Dumna Airport. The flight, SG 2458 from Mumbai to Jabalpur, touched down safely at about 1945 local time on Dec. 4, but ran into a herd of some 40 wild boars as it was decelerating, and as a result veered off the runway onto soft ground.

Skymall returns to United Airlines magazine
Skymall is back. For now. The Phoenix-based in-flight catalog that was known for selling quirky items such as hoodies for dogs and garden Yetis filed for bankruptcy this year, a victim of a digital age that made ordering from a catalog obsolete. In April, New Jersey-based C&A Marketing purchased Skymall out of bankruptcy protection with plans to revive the business.

Amazon, JetBlue mark deal with temporary movie theater
Amazon has opened a temporary movie theater at John F. Kennedy airport's Terminal 5 in New York City. Through Jan. 3, travelers can watch original programming by Amazon at the movie theater. The pop-up theater celebrates Amazon's partnership with JetBlue Airways, which allows Amazon Prime members complimentary access to in-flight Wi-Fi on JetBlue flights.

UK PM To Decide On New Heathrow Runway This Month
Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron could approve as soon as this week the building of an additional runway at London's Heathrow Airport, ending decades of political deadlock. The debate over where to build a new runway in the densely populated southeast of England has been raging for over 25 years and in 2010 permission was withdrawn to expand Heathrow, which objectors say already blights the lives of hundreds of thousands of Londoners.

US Army grounds 1,100 helicopters for five days for safety review
The US Army has grounded about 1,100 helicopters for five days to refocus on safety procedures following a rash of fatal accidents in November. The “safety stand-down” from 3-7 December grounded aviation units at 11 bases in the continental USA operating a mix of Boeing AH-64 Apaches and CH-47 Chinooks, and Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawks.
