Boeing completes detailed design for 787-10
Boeing has completed the 787-10’s detailed design, paving the way for assembly to begin on the largest aircraft in the Dreamliner family in 2016. The milestone, which Boeing said was achieved nearly two weeks ahead of schedule, “means the information needed to build parts and tools for assembly has been completed and released for fabrication or procurement,” according to the manufacturer. The 787-10, which will be 18 ft. (5.5 m) longer than the 787-9, is expected to achieve first flight in 2017. First delivery is scheduled for 2018 to United Airlines.

Tentative deal reached in Congress to reauthorize Ex-Im Bank
Members of the US Congress said they have reached a bipartisan agreement on surface transportation legislation that includes a provision to reauthorize the US Export-Import Bank (Ex-Im). Republicans and Democrats in both the House of Representatives and the Senate expressed confidence that the five-year highway bill, which is expected to provide about $300 billion in funding for US surface transportation needs, would be passed within days by both chambers, sending the bill to President Barack Obama for his signature.

Aeromexico Evaluating Delta Offer
Aeromexico's board of directors said it would study an offer from Delta Air Lines to increase its stake in Mexico's largest airline. Delta, which has a 4.1 percent stake in Aeromexico, last month said it planned to buy up to an additional 32 percent of the company to strengthen its grip on the fast-growing Latin American market.

AirAsia pushes new regional schedules, secondary hub growth
Malaysia-based low cost carrier AirAsia Berhad plans to launch its latest direct flight between tier-two Chinese city Guangzhou and Langkawi, Malaysia at the end of January 2016. The choice of tourist destination Langkawi for the group's latest international route underlines the company's strategy to develop services on less heavily serviced routes. The schedule will see 4X-weekly Airbus A320 departures.

Cocaine Found On American Airlines Plane
Maintenance workers with American Airlines have discovered 11.8 kg (26 pounds) of cocaine in a Boeing 757 undergoing routine maintenance at Tulsa Airport. The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office was called to the airport's maintenance area after airline employees found packages of a white, powdery substance in the plane on Tuesday night, the sheriff's office said.

Delta Unit Revenue Up In November
Delta Air Lines said it earned more per mile in November than a year ago, as earlier cuts to its flight capacity abroad helped offset flat trans-Atlantic traffic in a month disrupted by the Paris attacks. Delta said in a news release that the increase included a two percentage point benefit from the timing of peak travel around the US Thanksgiving holiday.

Ethiopian Airlines introduces Boeing 777 flight simulator
Ethiopian Airlines has finalized the installation of a Boeing 777 flight simulator manufactured by CAE Inc. This 777 flight simulator, which is located in the newly built flight operations building at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, is its fifth full flight simulator (FFS)—following the Boeing 767/757, Boeing 737NG, Bombardier Q400 and the Boeing 787 FFS, which became operational in March.

Hawaiian Airlines turns to Honolulu chef for in-flight menu
Hawaiian Airlines is rolling out the second phase of its featured chef series by debuting a brand new in-flight menu for all flights between Hawaii and the Mainland that will be created by chef Lee Anne Wong, co-owner of the Koko Head Cafe and Hale Ohuna restaurants in Honolulu. Wong has created the menus for all Hawaiian Airlines (Nasdaq: HA) flights from Japan to Hawaii since September, when she also opened Hale Ohuna.

JetBlue boosts service from JFK to Cuba
JetBlue Airways and Cuba Travel Services announced that the two are offering a second weekly roundtrip flight between John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City and José Martí International Airport in Havana.

Malaysia Airlines, Emirates agree to extensive codeshare pact
Malaysia Airlines and Emirates Airline have agreed to a “strategic partnership” that both carriers touted as a major extension of their networks. The accord is particularly significant for Malaysia, which gained a new air operator’s certificate (AOC) in August as it attempts to start over and rebuild following years of financial losses for the former Malaysia Airlines and the loss of two Boeing 777s, MH370 and MH17, in fatal crashes in 2014. The agreement will include extensive codesharing to be implemented “progressively throughout 2016 subject to regulatory approvals,” according to a statement released by the carriers.

Norwegian plan shows how single-aisles can go long-haul
News that Norwegian may use its Boeing 737 Max fleet to open up new long-haul transatlantic routes confirms the expectation that airlines will capitalise on the greater range offered by new-generation narrowbodies like the Boeing twinjet and the Airbus A320neo. Data from Flightglobal's schedules specialist Innovata shows that Norwegian is already among the leading group of airlines using single-aisles on long-haul routes.

Ryanair launches legal action against Google and eDreams
Ryanair is taking high court action against Google and Spanish online travel agency eDreams, claiming eDreams is misleading customers into thinking they are booking directly with Ryanair. When the term “Ryanair” is entered into a Google search, paid advertising from eDreams returns as the top hit.

United Airlines posts record-setting Thanksgiving travel period
United Airlines transported 3.1 million travelers over the Thanksgiving travel period this year. From Nov. 22 through Nov. 29, the carrier's flight completion rate over that time was the best-ever in the history of the airline. In addition, United Express achieved its best Thanksgiving on-time performance on record.

United offers complimentary meals in economy class on select flights
United Airlines is offering complimentary meals in economy class to passengers on flights to Latin America. Passengers flying from the US to Bogota, Colombia, and Quito, Ecuador, will receive complimentary meals.

Virgin Atlantic, Aer Lingus end Ryanair partnership talks
Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary is optimistic his carrier will strike a couple of short-haul feed agreements by next summer, although talks with Aer Lingus and Virgin Atlantic Airways have now ended. “Talks are continuing with a number of carriers, but others have come to an end. We are still speaking with Norwegian, a US carrier which doesn’t want to be named and TAP Portugal,” O’Leary said at a London press briefing on Dec. 1, in response to a question.

Severe weather forces Chennai Airport to close
India’s third busiest airport, Chennai International, has been forced to close and cancel all aircraft movements as a result of severe weather conditions on Dec.1. The airport, which last year handled an average of more than 40,000 passengers and 340 aircraft movements per day, has been hit by severe storms and flooding caused by a major depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal.

APKWS rockets delivered to Jordan for CN235 gunships
BAE Systems has delivered its Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) to Jordan to provide precision guided rocket capability for two special operations Airbus Defence & Space CN235 light gunships. This marks the first international sale of the weapon system, which has previously only been used by US forces, with 110 APKWSs in use with the US Navy from a May 2014 order.

Lockheed civil helicopter outlook worsens since Sikorsky deal
Lockheed Martin has seen the outlook worsen for a recovery in the commercial helicopter market since acquiring Sikorsky, says chief financial officer Bruce Tanner. Speaking to investors and analysts at the Credit Suisse Industrials Conference on 2 December, Tanner said that consultants hired by Lockheed while conducting due diligence on the acquisition earlier this year had already taken a more pessimistic outlook on the market recovery than had Sikorsky parent United Technologies.

Italian air force aims for F-16 certification for KC-767A tanker
The Italian air force is seeking to certify refuelling of the Lockheed Martin F-16 using its Boeing KC-767A, to complete a list of types that will operate alongside the tanker. The service has tried three times to certify the operation using Belgian, Dutch and Polish F-16s, but data transfer between the manufacturers that is required to carry out the testing has until now failed to happen, delaying the process.
