Boeing 727 prepares to fly again to join museum collection
United Airlines received delivery of its first Boeing 727 in 1963 and of prototype N7001U in 1964. More than 50 years later, the N7001U is being readied to fly again to join the Museum of Flight in Seattle.

Airbus has selected five start-ups from around the world for its BizLab technology accelerator. The start-ups include: 3rd Trust, OBUU, PaperClip Design, SimSoft 3D and UWinLoc.

Opinion column touts Alaska's business model
Like many airlines, Alaska Air just reported the best quarter in its history, thanks largely to low fuel prices. The company turns out margins and returns on capital that are consistently the best of the largest American carriers, while also owning the strongest balance sheet.

American seeks employee feedback on uniforms
American Airlines will launch another round of testing for its new employee uniforms, which have been revised due to employee feedback. "Starting Sep. 28, more than 80 pilots, flight attendants, Premium Customer Services representatives and airport customer service agents will don the prototypes for the wear test," American said in an employee newsletter.

China Eastern to take 15 A330s
China Eastern Airlines is to acquire 15 Airbus A330s which will be delivered during 2017-18. The airline disclosed the purchase agreement in a statement to the Shanghai stock exchange.

Approval granted for Delta, Virgin Australia partnership
Virgin Australia and Delta Air Lines have received permission from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission to partner on flights between Australia and the U.S.

FedEx showcases Falcon 20 in Memphis
N9FE, one of FedEx's original Falcon 20s, is still "flying" inside FedEx's Greenway Aviation Trading Center on the grounds of their Memphis World Hub sorting facility. Recent photos provided to Aviation Week show the aircraft still quietly but proudly on display, suspended from the ceiling along with a Falcon cockpit section underneath. Aviation Week Intelligence Network's Fleet database shows that this aircraft, bearing serial no. 84, first flew on April 27, 1967, and was used by LTV Aerospace Corporation until being purchased by FedEx on March 6, 1972.

Gol May Trim Fleet Plan Due To Slowdown
Brazilian airline Gol may adjust its fleet plan due to an adverse economic outlook, chief executive Paulo Kakinoff said. Kakinoff said the airline had some flexibility in when it receives additional Boeing 737s, as well as the option of leasing out its planes to other carriers.

Jet Airways Swings To Profit In June Quarter
Jet Airways made a profit in the June quarter, helped by a drop in fuel costs and a one-time gain on the sale and leaseback of engines. Mumbai-based Jet, India's second largest carrier by market share, said net profit in the April-June quarter was INR2.21 billion rupees (USD$33.8 million), compared with a loss of INR2.18 billion in the same quarter last year.

LATAM Airlines Sees Pickup In Brazil
LATAM Airlines said it is seeing some pickup in the Brazilian market in July and August, following a worse-than-expected set of second-quarter results. "I think it's too early to say there is a structural recovery in the level of yields, but we have seen some pickup in the last weeks of July and the first week of August, so we believe it could potentially be a trend," said TAM chief executive officer Claudia Sender.

United expands offerings on in-flight entertainment
United Airlines is offering expanded in-flight entertainment options to passengers with personal mobile devices on United Express regional jets. The United Private Screening system now includes recent movies such as "Birdman" and HBO shows such as "Game of Thrones."

United to offer nonstop service from Newark to West Indies
United Airlines is launching its first-ever nonstop service from New York to St Kitts, beginning December 2015. The flights will operate out of Newark Liberty International Airport utilizing a 737-800 aircraft, and will run on Saturdays through April. “The launch of this new service from United is very significant for St. Kitts, particularly as many of our new hotel developments including Belle Mont Farm at Kittitian Hill, Park Hyatt St Kitts at Christophe Harbour, Koi Resort & Residences and Embassy Suites by Hilton St Kitts are open or opening within the next few years,” said St Kitts and Nevis Tourism Minister Lindsay Grant

Chicago O'Hare International Airport plans to upgrade its retail offerings in its domestic terminals after a successful revamp of its international terminal. Luxury brands Coach and MAC Cosmetics have debuted in Terminal 2, which is home to United Airlines and Delta Air Lines.

Boeing completes KC-46 flutter tests as EMD-2 flight faces delay
The Boeing KC-46 test program has completed a series of flutter tests of the 767-2C tanker type, certifying it to operate with wing aerial refuelling pods and its tanker tail boom stowed. Boeing released a video this week that shows the EMD-1 aircraft, used to certify the 767-2C airframe, passing through basic manoeuvres.
