CFM delivers first Leap-1C to Comac
CFM International has delivered the first Leap-1C engine to Comac for its in-development C919 narrowbody program. The engine, sent to the Chinese manufacturer’s final assembly centre near Shanghai Pudong International airport, will be installed on the first C919 flight test aircraft. This pushes the first aircraft toward a roll-out by the end of the year, and a first flight in 2016.

Strong Dollar Masks Weakness At MTU Aero
MTU Aero Engines has lowered the sales forecast for its military and commercial maintenance division. The comments from the aircraft engine maker overshadowed an increase to full year sales and profit targets for the group as a whole, helped by benign currency effects. Engine makers are benefiting from new airline orders, helping to counter declining military spending. On the downside, supplying engines for new aircraft is less lucrative than providing spare parts and maintenance.

Alaska Airlines announces frequent-flier agreement with Chinese carrier
Passengers with Alaska Airlines can now use their frequent-flier miles with China's Hainan Airlines, and vice versa. The two airlines announced the deal on Wednesday

Alaska Air Profit Jumps On Higher US Travel
Alaska Air Group, the parent of Alaska Airlines, reported a 42 percent rise in second-quarter profit, helped by increased US travel and lower oil prices. The carrier's net income rose to USD$234 million, from USD$165 million a year earlier.

American Airlines Flight Between LAX And SYD On Sale Sunday
American Airlines customers can begin booking travel this Sunday for the airline's new flight between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Sydney Airport (SYD). The new, nonstop route, which launches Dec. 17 and was announced in June as part of the proposed enhanced joint business relationship with Qantas, expands American's global network by adding a fifth continent and reinforces the strength of its world-class LAX hub.

Brazilian Regulator Approves Delta, Gol Deal
Brazil's antitrust watchdog Cade approved with no restrictions a USD$446 million agreement between Delta Air Lines and Brazil's Gol to expand their alliance. Under the deal announced earlier this month, Delta will increase its share in Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes to about 10 percent from its current 3 percent as the Brazilian airline issues new shares.

Hawaiian Airlines to roll out Ohana package service
Hawaiian Airlines is expanding its inter-island service with the purchase of three turboprop planes configured for freight. Hawaiian expects the expansion to create more than 100 jobs.

JetBlue gives back with books
JetBlue has installed a free vending machine in Washington, D.C.'s Anacostia neighborhood that dispenses books. The neighborhood is one of the poorest and least literate areas in the country, and JetBlue hopes that giving away some 100,000 books this summer will help inspire children to read more.

Southwest turns in strong 2Q performance
Southwest Airlines earned $608 million in the second quarter.. That's a 31% increase from last year. CEO Gary Kelly called the results "exceptional, and our current outlook for the second half of 2015 is also strong."

United brings in $1.2B in 2Q
United Airlines reports a profit of $1.2 billion in the second quarter. "This quarter's record results reflect the progress we're making on our long-term plan, and I'd like to thank the United team for their great work," CEO Jeff Smisek said. "The $3 billion share repurchase program we announced today demonstrates the confidence we have in our future."

United enhances 767 fleet with interior redesign
Passengers flying internationally with United will benefit from some changes to the airlines' 767s. The current three-cabin layout is being streamlined into two cabins, and passengers will enjoy better connectivity throughout. More important, the craft will see safety and reliability improvements designed to improve on-time performance and enhance passenger comfort.

Lambert-St. Louis sees passenger growth
Lambert-St. Louis International Airport saw passenger traffic grow 1.7% in the first half of the year, enough of a bump for the airport to retain its place as the 31st busiest in the nation.

Russia's new Angara 1.2 launcher available for booking from 2017
A Russian space program dogged by recent launch failures and an impending budget cut got a boost this week, with the formal opening of flight sales for its new Angara 1.2 light- to medium-lift launch vehicle. International Launch Services, the commercial launch services provider and marketing arm of Russian rocket builder Khrunichev, says it is now “actively marketing” 1.2 flights from 2017. The modular Angara family ranges from the 1.2, able to put 3t into low-Earth orbit from Plesetsk cosmodrome in northern Russia, to a 25t heavy-lift 5 variant.
