Air Lease orders another A330 as Paris lifts Airbus backlog
US lessor Air Lease has ordered another Airbus A330-200, taking its commitment to the type to 10 aircraft. Airbus has disclosed the order – which was sealed after the Paris air show, during which Air Lease had agreed to take an A350 and four A320-family jets – in its latest backlog data. The backlog also shows that Indonesian carrier Lion Air has converted nine Airbus A320s to the re-engined A320neo version.

Rolls-Royce outlines profit impact of A330 sales slump
Rolls-Royce is predicting a greater drop-off in deliveries of engines for the Airbus A330 than previously forecast, contributing to a £300 million ($470 million) impact on its finances next year. The engine manufacturer, in a first-half update, says it expects the underlying full-year profit for its civil aerospace division to be £800-900 million – within the guidance range it disclosed earlier this year.

American Airlines announces routes for new Boeing 787s
American Airlines is deploying its new Boeing 787s to Los Angeles International, where they will operate on routes to Shanghai and Sao Paulo. A 787 will also join the Chicago-Tokyo route in August.

Cathay Pacific's first A350 undergoes final assembly
Airbus says it has begun final assembly of Cathay Pacific’s first Airbus A350-900 at is Toulouse manufacturing facility. The airframer issued an image of the aircraft fuselage section joining phase, which includes the attachment of the wings, horizontal and vertical tailplane, as well as tail cone.

Delta adds flights to the Bahamas, Eleuthera
Delta continues to expand its network in Latin America and the Caribbean with service from Atlanta to Eleuthera and Marsh Harbor in the Bahamas starting in December. In addition, the airline will increase its service to Georgetown from three times a week to daily, effective Dec. 19.

easyJet, Union Fail To Agree Pay Deal
British airline easyJet said it is confident it can operate its full summer flight schedule, after it failed to reach agreement with the union representing its UK cabin crew. Europe's second-biggest budget carrier behind Ryanair said it had increased pay by 4.1 percent for UK cabin crew and by 5.1 percent for cabin managers over two years backdated to January 2015 in line with a deal it had tabled in the discussions.

JetBlue launches direct charter service from NYC to Cuba
JetBlue has begun operating weekly charter flights between New York City and Havana, Cuba. The flights allow for the first direct travel between the U.S. and Cuba since a travel ban was lifted earlier this year.

Lufthansa, Pilots Mediation Talks Stuttering
Talks between Lufthansa and pilots' union Vereinigung Cockpit are reported to be on the verge of ending without agreement. If the talks fail it raises the prospect of strikes at the height of the summer travel season, Reuters reported from an unnamed union source.

Scoot unveils special independence livery
Scoot has unveiled a special livery to mark Singapore’s 50th year of independence. The Singapore Airlines low-cost subsidiary had its newest Boeing 787, a -9 variant bearing the registration 9V-OJE, painted in a commemorative “party-themed” livery with 20 red circles on each side to mimic bursts of confetti, says Scoot.

Southwest is close to finalizing contract with flight attendants
Southwest Airlines and its flight attendant union have reached a tentative deal that includes higher wages and changes to work rules. Union representatives say that the contract will be brought to a vote in the coming days.

New winter round trip flights from Southwest eases passenger travel
Southwest Airlines is making it easier for passengers to get around this winter as it introduces new round trip flights such as Little Rock, Ark., to St. Louis, Mo., and Sacramento, Calif., to Boise, Idaho. The airline will also offer several new flights from Fort Myers., Fla.

United Airlines is adding a new route from North Bend, Ore., to Denver, Colo., from the Southwest Oregon Regional Airport. The areas is home to Vern C. Gorst, an aviation pioneer often referred to as the "granddad" of United.

Berlin Seeks Private Investors For New Airport
Berlin is wooing private investors including Macquarie and JP Morgan to take a stake in its much-delayed new airport, a German newspaper reported. The investors are to be given confidential details of the airport's business plans so that they can make concrete offers, Bild am Sonntag said, without citing sources. A spokesman for the airport said there were no new developments regarding a possible part privatization.

F-22 Raptor retrofit to take longer, but availability hits 63%
The Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor may be the world’s greatest air superiority jet, but the supercruise fighter came with some major structural flaws that are still being addressed. One $350-million program in particular is making a mix of five major structural changes to 162 aircraft, including a mid-fuselage and engine bay retrofit, just so each can reach its promised service life of 8,000 flight hours.

Third A400M arrives for RAF duty
The UK Royal Air Force has taken delivery of its latest example of the A400M tactical transport, with ZM403 being its third of an eventual 22 aircraft to enter service. A flight crew from the RAF's 206(R) Sqn performed the A400M's 2.5h transfer from Airbus Defence & Space's final assembly in Seville, Spain to Brize Norton in Oxfordshire on 5 July, the service says.
