Airbus rolls out first Leap-powered A320neo
Airbus has rolled out the first A320neo to be fitted with the CFM International Leap-1A powerplant. The Leap-1A is the rival engine to the Pratt & Whitney PW1100G on the type. CFM already produces the CFM56 for the current A320 family but the Leap is designed to slash fuel-burn on the re-engined variant.

Airbus details A350 increased seat-count options
Airbus is rolling out its flexible seating initiative across its entire widebody range with the new A350 twinjet the next in line to receive the modifications. Development work to add options similar to those seen on the Space-Flex concept for the A320 narrowbody is under way, says Airbus vice-president of cabin marketing Ingo Wuggetzer. These include replacement of the lavatories in the door 4 area with slimline Smart-Lav units and reconfiguring their layout so they are no longer on either side of the aircraft.

A320s to have supplier-furnished Recaro seats
Airbus and German manufacturer Recaro Aircraft Seating have partnered to introduce supplier-furnished economy-class seats on the A320 family. The proposed new seat, named '3530Swift', is based on Recaro’s BL3530 already developed for the narrowbody and will be available later this year, says Airbus, as both line-fit and retrofit options.

Boeing explores BBJ 737 combi possibility
Boeing is exploring the possibility of introducing a passenger/combi version of the Boeing Business Jet 737-700C. The variant would resemble the C-40 Clipper in service with the US Navy, with a large cargo door just behind the left-side forward door, says David Longridge, president of Boeing Business Jets, said in an interview. “The variant would be able to carry 4t of cargo in the forward cargo hold and maybe 70 people in the back,” says Longridge.

Rebel Aero unveils 'revolutionary' seat
UK manufacturer Rebel Aero has unveiled an all-new short-haul economy-class seat that it believes will revolutionise the sector. Managing director Gareth Burks says long experience in composite manufacturing drove him to make the leap from component supplier to seat designer. “We see other people designing parts with composite and not getting the benefits they could. If you have it in mind from the start then you can optimise the design,” he says.

Zodiac plays Big Brother
Zodiac Aerospace is showcasing a new cabin surveillance system which uses a camera specifically designed to adjust to the changing lighting levels on board an aircraft. The system is being displayed on Zodiac’s Aircraft Interiors stand as part of its full cabin mock-up, which it uses to show how its various interiors products can be integrated with one another.

Asiana A320 involved in Hiroshima landing incident
One of South Korean carrier Asiana Airlines' Airbus A320-family jets has been involved in a landing incident at Hiroshima in Japan. Images from the scene show evacuation slides deployed on the aircraft and emergency vehicles in attendance.

Investigators sent to Asiana A320 runway excursion in Hiroshima
South Korea is dispatching investigators to the Hiroshima airport incident site where an Asiana Airlines Airbus A320-200 slid off the runway while landing. The investigators from South Korea's Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board will be accompanied by safety inspectors from Asiana, says the country's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

Malaysia Airlines signs for SITA tracking
Malaysia Airlines will introduce a global flight tracking system from mid-2015, the launch customer for a new SITA service that uses existing equipment and re-purposed air traffic control data. The deal will see Malaysia use SITA OnAir’s Aircom FlightTracker, a ground-based software upgrade that allows airlines to follow aircraft positions and identify any unexpected deviations or gaps in position reports.

Southwest Airlines Applies To Fly Between Denver And Puerto Vallarta
Southwest Airlines today filed an application with the U.S. Department of Transportation to provide daily, nonstop service between Denver International Airport (DEN) and Lic. Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR) in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, beginning in November 2015, subject to approvals from relevant governmental agencies. "Our new daily flight from the Rockies to the Mexican Pacific coastline will give our Colorado Customers as well as connecting passengers quick access to another international destination," said Steven Swan, Southwest Airlines Director of International Planning.
