American Airlines announces employee pay raises
Most employees at American Airlines will receive 4% raises, the carrier announced in a letter to employees. CEO Doug Parker noted the success American saw in its first year following the merger and is sharing the carrier's improved financial performance with employees. "In celebration of that success, today we are announcing a pay increase of 4 percentage points for represented workgroups with ratified joint contracts and for non-contract employees below the director level," Parker said.

American Airlines, Envoy pilots union reach contract deal
American Airlines Group and the union representing Envoy pilots have come to agreement on a 10-year contract. The contract will allow American to hire Envoy pilots, and also includes a pledge by American to purchase new aircraft

Delta files objection to DOT review of Tokyo Haneda slots
Delta Air Lines is protesting a review by the Department of Transportation over the carrier's Tokyo Haneda slots. "Delta is full compliance with the order's stated conditions," the carrier said in a filing on Monday. "Despite that, the Department has elected to consider whether to reallocate those frequencies to another carrier."

French easyJet Strike Forces 38 Friday Cancellations
easyJet's French operation has cancelled 38 mainly domestic flights scheduled for Friday in response to a two-day strike by cabin crew. The carrier said it had cancelled 34 internal domestic to or from Lyon, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Lille, Nantes, Nice, Brest, Paris Orly and Charles de Gaulle airports on Friday. Four Milan and Barcelona flights have also been dropped and five services between French airports and London Gatwick delayed by up to 7 1/2 hours, easyJet said.

​A350 arrives home at ‘tough customer’ Qatar
Qatar Airways’ first Airbus A350-900 has finally arrived at its home base – a week or so later than originally planned – after departing Toulouse in the company of the airline’s fourth A380. The 23 December ferry flight from Toulouse was originally scheduled on 13 December, but was postponed after a last-minute hitch during the airline’s acceptance process in Toulouse.

JPMorgan Fund In Talks On SpiceJet Stake - Report
A fund managed by JPMorgan Chase is in advanced talks to partner with Indian carrier SpiceJet's co-founder for a planned USD$200 million investment into the cash-strapped airline, the Economic Times reported. Ajay Singh, who helped set up the low-cost airline in 2005, is leading a rescue plan for SpiceJet and has met aviation ministry officials to discuss a revival plan. He is looking to partner some US-based private equity investors to help fund the airline, a government official told reporters on Monday.

Chicago airports expect 4.2 million passengers this holiday season
Officials at Chicago's O'Hare and Midway airports expect a combined 4.2 million passengers to pass through their facilities during the 18 days surrounding the holiday season. The airports are making an effort to relieve holiday stress. "We have live entertainment at both airports between 1 and 4 p.m. that's past security, so we've got carolers and choirs, all kinds of live entertainment, musical entertainment," said Karen Pride, spokeswoman for the Chicago Department of Aviation.

Hanoi Airport Capacity Doubles As New Terminal Opens
Vietnam has started operating a new USD$900 million terminal at Hanoi Airport that will nearly double its capacity, the latest move in expanding what is one of the world's fastest-growing aviation markets. Passenger planes took off on Thursday from Noi Bai Terminal Two, Hanoi Airport's new wing that will handle 10 million passengers per year and up to 15 million in future as demand rises for air travel at home and abroad. Noi Bai has been overstretched for years with only one terminal and capacity of 12 million passengers annually. The new terminal formally opens on December 31.

Japan Shortlists For Kansai Airport Concession
New Kansai International Airport Company has shortlisted 20 bidders for a multi-billion dollar concession to operate Japan's fifth-busiest passenger airport for 44 years. They include Australia's Macquarie Capital Group, Singapore's Changi Airports International, and Global Infrastructure Management, which operates London's Gatwick Airport, it said. The license for Kansai will be bundled with operating rights for the smaller Osaka Airport nearby. It should fetch at least JPY¥2 trillion (USD$16.6 billion), New Kansai officials said in July.
