As you may know, my aging parents have an apartment about 50 feet from mine. Mom's friend came to visit her a few minutes ago. About five minutes after she went inside, the police showed up. I could see the officer running the plate of her car, then he got out and looked inside the vehicle. I went outside to see if I could answer any questions. The enhanced 9-1-1 system pinpointed a 9-1-1 call coming from that spot. I went to get mom's friend and we found out that her cell phone inside the car had somehow dialed 9-1-1.
Darren, the officer, said that the county's E911 system can pinpoint a cell call within six feet of accuracy now. Wow. Things have sure changed in the four short years since I retired from public safety.
