ANA Had Previous 787 Electric Panel Problems
All Nippon Airways had three instances of electric distribution panel trouble in its Boeing 787 Dreamliners before it grounded the aircraft in January and had to replace the panel twice, a spokesman said. In the most serious case, which took place in April 2012, ANA found burns in the protection circuit and the breaker of an electric distribution panel during on-ground inspections after pilots received a generator-related bug message, ANA spokesman Etsuya Uchiyama said on Thursday.

NTSB To Issue 787 Update Report
The US National Transportation Safety Board will issue an "interim factual report" on Thursday on its investigation into a battery fire aboard a Japan Airlines Boeing 787 Dreamliner on January 7. The agency said the information to be released on the incident at Boston's Logan Airport was "factual in nature and does not provide any analysis." Sources familiar with the matter said the report would not include conclusions about the cause of the fire, or recommendations for the Federal Aviation Administration, which is considering a proposal by Boeing to address the risks of fire aboard the plane.

Czech Airlines Stake To Be Sold To Korean
The Czech government plans to sell a minority stake in CSA Czech Airlines to Korean Air, the only party interested in the loss-making airline, finance minister Miroslav Kalousek said on Wednesday. Kalousek said Korean Air, CSA's partner in the SkyTeam alliance, had offered CZK2.64 million koruna (USD$134,000) for the 44 percent stake - the price derived from an audit of the airline - and recommended the cabinet agree.

UK Resumes Probe Into Ryanair's Aer Lingus Stake
Britain's Competition Commission said on Wednesday it has resumed an investigation into whether Ryanair's 30 percent stake in rival Irish airline Aer Lingus distorts competition in the UK market. The investigation had been put on hold while the European Commission decided whether to block Ryanair's latest attempt at a full takeover of Aer Lingus, which it did last week.

Qatar Air Says Airbus Dropping Smallest A350
Qatar Airways cast doubt on the future of the Airbus A350-800 on Wednesday, saying the European plane maker had decided to pour all its efforts into two larger variants. Qatar Airways chief executive Akbar Al Baker, who recently cancelled an order for the A350-800 and upgraded orders for sister models, said the 270-seater would not appear in service.
"They (Airbus) are not going to make the -800. This is what they told us," he told reporters at a trade fair. Airbus said it was sticking by the USD$254 million model. "The A350-800 is a key member of our next-generation A350 family," spokesman Stefan Schaffrath said.

New generation aircraft face increased cyber threat
The latest generation in aircraft face a growing cyber threat, as they are increasingly connected to data networks and the internet. These aircraft, which include the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787, have more data uplinks and downlinks, and are often equipped with passenger wi-fi systems, that create possible opportunities for cyber terrorists, panellists say at International Air Transport Association's (IATA) AVSEC aviation security conference in New York today. "What worries me is the challenge that I'm not too sure that we've got the right handle on the catastrophic end of what we could be facing," says Steve Jackson, group head of security and facilitation at Qantas Airways, at the conference. He says that someone could potentially hack into an aircraft network over the internet from their home.

The Pearly Gates
It seems a 727 crew had a bad day out and the poor buggers slogged into a paddy and bit the big one. The Captain F/O and S/O were, subsequent to the crash, walking up to the pearly gates to discuss their fate with the Guardian At the Gate.
The Captain, being from the old school and not well versed in CRM told his mates to wait where they were for a blink while he sorted things out with the angel at the gate. The captain, discusses the situation for awhile and comes back to the two and tells them that he's got a little good news and a little bad news. The F/O and S/O both insist on the bad news first.
"Well" he says, "the bad news is that any extra marital affairs we have had bar our entry into paradise." The F/O and the S/O start to walk away quite upset and wondering what an eternity in Hades is going to be like. The captain says "wait a minute mates don't you want to hear the good news?"
"Layovers, don't count."
