Arizona Diamondbacks - Can't field: lead the majors in errors, the bullpen: second worst in the major leagues; base running: these guys need a GPS to go from base to base, mental mistakes: would take to much space; Two bright spots - Dan Haren and Clay Zavada (a cool hand bar mustache and zero runs in 18 appearances). When does the football season begin?

Chicago White Sox: 2 games above .500, 3 games out of first, 8-2 of last 10. We face every non-Detroit team until the allstar break. Gordon Beckham is looking better everyday, and the only complaints I have are with 2B (Getz/Nix) and the 4th/5th starting spot (Richard/Contreas/Colon). We need Quentin back from injury, but other than that, the players who struggled are starting to bounce back (look at Contreas, Floyd, and Danks #s from their last few starts). The big question: will KW hold steady, buy big, or sell Dye and Jenks at the deadline. That's our big issue.

What about Justin Upton? He's a beast and one of my favorite players.

What about Justin Upton? He's a beast and one of my favorite players.

Six errors already charged to him while playing right field. He would have another one charged Sunday, if the Angels runner tagged up at third, when he airmailed the ball to the backstop. Still a work in progress. I'm guessing with the lousy management in Arizona, as soon as F/A is available he will walk, Dodgers?

For sure Upton will leave. It'd be cool to see him in SF. He reminds me of a young Ken Griffey Jr.

One of my favorite players though. I like Pablo Sandoval too, as well as Milton Bradley

The A's are terrible. They have some young bright spots, the 4 young pitchers, Kurt Suzuki is a good catcher, and some good talent in the farm system, and Grant Green they drafted looks to be good as well.

I think the Giants can make the playoffs though.

Giants do have the pitching, now if the bats will produce more.

Cahill is good. Not as good as Mazzaro, but he's good.

Great 5 pitchers potential-wise they have. Mazzaro, Anderson, Cahill, Outman (out for the year unfortunately), and Dallas Braden's pretty good.

Don't look now, but the Giants would take the NL wild card if the season ended today...not to mention they're only 7 games back and it's early July. Get a series win or two against the Bums...and that lead is cut beyond half. hings are looking rather surprising in the Bay. I like it.

In local news, the Phillies lambasted the Reds last night. Wow. Rather embarrassing, but it couldn't have happened to a nicer manger.

Was at the Giants game last night. I saw Sandoval's homerun get clubbed as I was coming back from taking a piss. Pretty impressive. I like that guy as a player. He's a beast.

The Giants, if they get another bat like they are trying to do....will be a dangerous team, and if they make the playoffs, all bets are off. Especially in a short series with those 2 top of the rotation pitchers.

IIRC your brother mentioned you guys were going. And yes, with Lincecum, Cain, and Big Unit (if he can make it back into October, I'll bet he'll be the monster he used to be...I sure as hell wouldn't want to face him in a Game 3 situation), they will make any series difficult. The team ERA is just over 3.5, and the bullpen ERA is a bit under 3.5.

You're right, if they could only add another bat to that lineup, they'll catch the Bums, or at least lock up the wild card, then look out. Maybe even Zito will finally find his command...then you move Johnson to the #4 slot, and there's your playoff rotation. Question is...where are they going to get said bat?

With the economy and SF's relatively good team finances, there's a bevy of possibilities.

one of the LaRoche's is a possibility. They missed out on a couple of guys had for peanuts...Scott Hairston and Nate McLouth. They could have used either one of those guys.
Nick Johnson maybe? Adam Dunn? Garret Atkins would be a good buy-low on.

Other than that, maybe they can get the horses together to get Matt Holliday.

They're going to the playoffs, their pitching is too good.

The problem with Dunn is he strikes out almost as much as Howard does...

Yeah...he does hit a ton...when he connects...and they could stick him in LF...Lewis' defense is...well...Dunn's isn't much worse...it's a somewhat short LF at that...and Rowand can cover what's left open towards center.

I haven't seen anything that gives me concern about the Dodgers and their chances of winning the West.

I don't think there's any doubt that they'll win the West, I'm talking about the Giants' playoff chances more in the realm of the Wild Card.

I'm in the extreme minority, but I think Cain is a better pitcher.

As an aside, it's nice to see that the NL West isn't the doormat it's been over the past few seasons. The NL East seems to taken over that role.

Also, a bat the Giants missed out on for peanuts was Mark DeRosa, though he's hurt now. He would have been great for SF.

Kenny Williams has admitted the Sox finances aren't as great as everyone thought. As much as I think we can make the playoffs and shouldn't sell, I wouldn't be surprised to see Dye go. Then again, this is the 3rd year in a row I've said that. Even if you don't want him, the Sox are almost all power. Pick one.

I suspect that the White Sox committed highway robbery of the Diamondbacks again. Pena should be a force out of your bullpen.

The only thing that's really excited me this year about the Padres is when they got Tony Gwynn jr. It's awesome to see that name back in the lineup.

Brandon Allen was are only 1B prospect, and keep in mind how old are current 1B is. Because of that, mixed reaction from me. Rumors are Dotel is about to get dealt and Pena replace him. We'll see.
