Everything that would not belong anywhere else.

A strong earthquake jolted Anchorage, Alaska, on Monday, sending people diving under desks and huddling in doorways but apparently causing no damage.

The U.S. Geological Survey said an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 struck about 24 miles from the town of Willow at 11:28 a.m. The epicenter was 58 miles from the state's largest city, Anchorage, where the rumbling continued for several moments.

That's enough to make one take notice, but I doubt much came off the walls. Speaking of ANC, seems Pep hasn't been on since.

Pep is on his way from Glennallen to Anchorage, about a 5-6 hour drive for an old feller like him.

I heard about this on the radio earlier and thought about starting a thread about it myself, but then I heard it was only a 5.4 which is a "sleeper" for most Alaskans.

I'll have you know I was in ANC @ 1400, then turned in the rent-a-wreck, and grabbed the BAFDT from the Dealer (completel with new gaskets for the turbo) and was home by 1530.

I was somewhere around Eureka when the quake hit. Didn't feel anything. Rarely do when driving on an Alaskan road.

And, lastly, Bite me. I managed it in 3.25 hours. Not bad for an Old Feller. {sick} {grumpy}

I certainly do not want to turn this into a pissing match, but what state gets more earthquakes year to year- CA or AK?

My thought was AK, but just wondering if anyone knew off hand.

Which one gets more earthquakes that matter? Neither, unless the Bay Bridge is somehow involved. {crazy}

Alaska.

No question.

Simply because we're more seismically active, but also, because of the size of the state.

No offense to CA.

Not only that, you can probably narrow it down to just South Central Alaska and you'd still have far more than California. You hear more about the small ones in California because it is so heavily populated. Whereas a 4.5 near LA would be worthy of a mention on the national networks, the same quake near Anchorage would make a small mention in the newspaper or on a TV station's website.

I did feel it.

It wasn't all that. We are more annoyed by the compactors working the Old Seward construction site behind us.

We actually had a guess that it was more of a 4.6. So it was bit stronger then we thought.
