Vinegar is what makes fish and chips.
Damn it, now I'm hungry.
My friend and I applied for airline jobs in Australia, but they didn't Qantas.

You'd be in trouble in Blackpool - my home town is widely renowned as the home of fish and chips. We have around 150 fish and chip shops here

Blasphemer! Fish and chips come with salt and vinegar and maybe a dollop of tartar sauce.
A million great ideas...

When I'm in the UK, I've learned to REALLY emphasize the "no vinegar" thing when I order and as they're serving it. I've just never liked vinegar. God knows I've tried. And like most Americans, I drown the chips in loads of ketchup, which has gotten me some strange looks. Nearly got into a pissing match with the manager of a chippy in Dover because of it. He was really proud of his product and felt it should be served the way HE wanted.

Best fish and chips I had was at Newlyn, in Cornwall - and it was ling. (Great thing about being yards from the harbour, not only was it so fresh it was practically wriggling, but you got all the weird things they'd happened to catch.) Supposedly cod-like, but it was so beautifully milky. Nothing else I've had has come close.

Should have got a pic of that, but heres another meal- good as well:

I'll take mine heavily salted, dash of vinegar. Ketchup and tarter on the side.
If you don't mind me asking, whats the green stuff in the upper left?

Wasn't bad, but not highlight of the dish!
I love authentic english fish and chips, but I absolutely hate those disgusting peas.
At home in the PNW and loving it

I had a couple of really good hamburgers at church today. Mouthwateringly good to be exact. And yet, I still thought of this thread. I now crave fish and chips with a passion. When I went to the UK, I tried to sample some, but the pub I was at was out of chips.

Quite right too - lovely fish and chips in Cornwall - especially as the fish is so fresh and the water is somewhat less polluted than the Irish Sea or North Sea....
I come from a little fishing village further up the coast from Newlyn - between Falmouth and Mevagissey, and never fail to get great fish and chips when i go home.
Oh and I have mine with vinegar every time
