Don't know if you guys have seen this or not, but I found it to be a fascinating read about a seriously FUBAR situation. Thoughts?

A close call to be sure - I wonder how much the situation has improved at Bagram?

Ask WrenchBender...
And let's get one thing straight. There's a big difference between a pilot and an aviator. One is a technician; the other is an artist in love with flight. — E. B. Jeppesen

Pull up the image on google maps. It's a completely different airbase than it was when the US moved in. The taxiway parking from the story time period is now a full on ramp area.

The mix of airframes on the ramp is interesting. A quick look showed:

A-10
AC-130
AH-64
C-17
C-130
CH-53
CH-47
EA-6B
G.222
MC-130
Mig-21 (junk)
PC-6
UH-1
UH-60

A very interesting read. But KAF and Bag have both changed a lot over the years, lots more parking installed and tighter control on access to the airside. No more chasing crunchies off the airfield. Both airfields no longer operate "Tactical", in fact an A/C will get violated for going Lights Off within the control Zone.
I feel for the guys who operated at both fields back at the start of the war, grab what real estate you could and hope no one taxied through your lines or landed on you. We still have to watch for landing helo's on the main taxiway at KAF.
