"Thanks for the message. Please send me a link to your website, and some information about what pictures you used, and how long you used them. I will then see what I can do. If you could send me your address as well, then I could mail you a nice surprise as a compensation for your efforts."

He'd then indeed have to call his lawyer pretty soon...

When I worked for that computer games company, we once had a kid on the hotline who threatened to sue us as the cracked game he downloaded didn't work anymore. He indeed provided us with his address upon request, when we promised him some 'assistance'...

Oh, and I remember that bright fella who asked for legal assistance on a.net some 1-2 years ago, as 'another site' had stolen his pictures from a.net.
Turned out the other site was myaviation, the genius had checked the respective option upon uploading.

To be fair though how many people know and understand copyright or any other forms of intellectual property?

I only know about patents and the related patent laws since now that's my job.

I tell no lie when I say that I spoke to a friend the other week and he asked me if he could buy stamps for email from the Royal Mail!

However, some folks just think that the internet is a free-for-all. Also, how many of your photobucket account graphics were 'lifted' from the internet?
