Must be an interesting experience to suddenly lose tens of thousands of pounds from you airplane at once.

Like on a heavy bomber. The cargo will be stored close to the aircraft´s center of lift, so that, except for the short moment while it slides aft and out of the door, there will be almost no big CG change.
WW2 heavy bombers made a noticeable jump and became much more agile when the cargo went.

I would have thought the lights would be off on the inside for the sake of those guys on the other side dressed like they are going to be jumping shortly.
