CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) - A Carlsbad woman accused of running away with a 16-year-old boy faces felony sex charges.
Melinda Beth Bridges, 31, was arrested May 7 in Louisiana after five days at large. She was found with the male student. Bridges did not enter a plea Tuesday to a single count of criminal sexual penetration of a minor, a fourth-degree felony.
The two met while Bridges - who is married and has children - was a substitute teacher at Jefferson Montessori Academy, where the boy is a student.
According to a criminal complaint, police investigators on May 1 received a report from the school's principal regarding a teacher who reportedly was involved with a student.

In many countries (including the UK), he isn't even a minor. At sixteen he should be more than capable of making his own decisions - he is, after all, legally allowed to own a gun and have a ppl and driving license in the US, though he's five years away from being able to drink and two years away from legally having sex
