The Air Force is seeking concepts for a next-generation aircraft to replace the Lockheed Martin F-22 fighter. A solicitation released this week seeks concepts for a tactical aircraft to begin operating in about 2030. The Aerospace Industries Association said the effort is necessary to keeping the U.S. technologically ahead. "Unless new manned aerospace programs start soon, America's capability to design and build future manned combat aircraft will atrophy and threaten the aerospace technological superiority that has long been the hallmark of our national security," said Fred Downey, the AIA's vice president for national security.
