Airbus creates support business units to service airlines
Predicting a jump in demand by airlines for support services as the world’s fleets expand over the next 20 years, Airbus has created dedicated business units for maintenance, training, operations and upgrades. In its first Global Services Forecast, the European airframer believes that the world commercial aviation aftermarket services market will be worth $3 trillion over the next two decades. The bulk of that - $1.8 trillion – will be accounted for by MRO services, growing from $53 billion in 2015 to $132 billion by 2035, growing at an average of 4.6% annually.

Airbus to halve A380 output
Airbus is to halve its production output on the Airbus A380, aiming for just 12 deliveries annually from 2018. The airframer had achieved production breakeven on the double-deck type last year, when it delivered 27 aircraft. But the backlog has diminished with few additional orders.

Air Lease Corp. orders six Boeing 737 MAX 8s
US-based Air Lease Corp. (ALC) announced an order for six Boeing 737 MAX 8s at the Farnborough Airshow. According to Boeing, three of the orders are new, and three were previously attributed to an unidentified customer on the Boeing Orders & Deliveries website. The order is valued at $660 million at list prices.

AirAsia orders 100 Airbus A321neos
Malaysia-based low-cost carrier (LCC) AirAsia signed a firm order with Airbus for 100 A321neos, the largest single new order for commercial jets announced so far at the Farnborough Airshow. AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes and Airbus president and CEO Fabrice Brégier signed the deal, the first order placed by AirAsia for the largest model in the A320 family

Cayman Airways to lease four 737 MAX 8s
Cayman Airways is to lease four Boeing 737 MAX 8s as it embarks on a fleet renewal program. The Caribbean carrier, a long-time Boeing customer, will replace four 737-300s that are approaching 25 years of age. The new aircraft, which will come from lessor Air Lease Corp. (ALC), will begin arriving in December 2018 through 2020.

Germania orders 25 Airbus A320neos
German low-cost carrier (LCC) Germania has placed a firm order for 25 Airbus A320neos and has taken options on a further 15 aircraft, in a deal valued at $2.7 billion. The LCC selected Pratt & Whitney’s PurePower Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines to power its fleet of up to 40 A320neo aircraft. Announcing the deal at the Farnborough Airshow, Germania CEO Karsten Balke said the aircraft will primarily be used for fleet renewal. “This will give us a solid foundation for the future development of business,” he said.

Go Air signs MOU for 72 Airbus A320neos
Indian low-cost carrier Go Air is planning to double its Airbus A320neo order, after signing a memorandum of understanding for a further 72 aircraft. “We are very conservative. Whenever we decide something, we make careful calculations. We came to the conclusion we would double our current order for 72 [A320neos] with another 72 for delivery by 2025, giving us a total order for 144 aircraft,” Go Air CEO Wolfgang Prock-Schauer said, announcing the agreement at the Farnborough Airshow.

Gulf Air chooses Trent 1000 to power Boeing 787s
Bahrain-based Gulf Air has selected the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engine to power its Boeing 787-9s in a deal valued at $900 million. Gulf Air in January announced it was ordering 16 787-9s. The contract with Rolls covers Trent 1000 engines to power 10 787-9s, plus options for additional Trent 1000s to power six more 787-9s. The agreement also includes long-term service support by Rolls.

JetBlue to offer Mint on Fla. to L.A. route next year
Next year, JetBlue will offer its Mint premium cabin service on flights connecting Florida's Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and the Los Angeles International Airport. "Our freshly designed, affordable take on premium travel is winning us customers in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and we expect it to do the same in Fort Lauderdale and beyond," said JetBlue's Marty St. George.

LATAM's first A320neo rolls out at Airbus
LATAM Airlines Brazil will be the first South American operator of the Airbus A320neo, as the airframe rolls out at Airbus’ Toulouse facility with engines installed. The aircraft, powered by Pratt & Whitney PW1100 engines, will now undergo the installation of cabin interiors as well as ground and flight testing.

Porter Airlines orders three Bombardier Q400s
Canadian regional airline Porter Airlines has signed a firm purchase agreement for three Bombardier Q400s, valued at $93 million at list prices. The three aircraft will increase Porter’s all-Q400 fleet to 29 aircraft, with the first two deliveries slated for December 2016.

Qatar Airways takes stake in LATAM Group
Gulf carrier Qatar Airways is to take a stake of up to 10% in South America’s LATAM Airlines Group, it was announced at the Farnborough Airshow July 12. The investment will take place through a capital increase in LATAM, worth $613 million through the issue of new shares.

Qatar in talks for up to 30 737s amid A320neo saga
Qatar Airways group chief executive Akbar Al Baker has disclosed that talks with Boeing over a potential order for up to 30 737s are "quite advanced" as he examines alternatives to his stalled Airbus A320neo deal. The Qatari flag carrier remains at an impasse with Airbus and Pratt & Whitney over the teething problems the re-engined airliner has suffered. This prompted the airline to trigger the walk-away clause in its contract for the first of its aircraft earlier this year.

TUI Group converts options on 10 Boeing 737 MAX 8s, one 787-9
European leisure travel specialist TUI Group has converted options on 10 Boeing 737 MAX 8s and a single 787-9, valued at $1.4 billion at list prices. The options, which were firmed at the Farnborough Airshow, are from a 2013 order for 60 737 MAXs plus 60 options. This leaves TUI with 50 outstanding MAX options and 70 firmed aircraft, with deliveries slated to begin in 2018 and run over a four-year period. These aircraft will be deployed primarily on Mediterranean routes.

Volga-Dnepr Group acquires 20 Boeing 747-8 freighters
Russian air cargo conglomerate Volga-Dnepr Group finalized terms of acquisition with Boeing for 20 747-8 freighters, valued at approximately $7.58 billion at list prices. Four aircraft have already been delivered. The agreement was announced at the Farnborough Airshow July 12. Volga-Dnepr Group is the parent of three major Russian air-freight carriers: Volga-Dnepr Airlines, AirBridgeCargo Airlines and Atran Airlines.

WOW Air orders four direct-purchased Airbus A321s
Icelandic budget carrier WOW Air has firmed an order for four Airbus A321s, its first purchase agreement directly with Airbus. The order is valued at $459.6 million at list prices. WOW Air selected CFM International CFM56-5B engines to power the four aircraft, in an order valued at $85 million at list prices.

Third Round Of Offers For Lyon Airport
France's state shareholding agency APE has asked bidders to submit a third round of offers by midday Tuesday for a 60 percent stake in Lyon-Saint-Exupery airport, three people close to the matter said on Monday. The APE has yet to decide whether it will hold a third round for another airport, Nice Cote d'Azur, the sources said.

Brazil May Sell Sao Paulo And Rio Airports
The Brazilian government will consider selling airports in Sao Paulo and Rio to help reduce a large fiscal deficit next year, interim President Michel Temer said in a newspaper interview on Sunday. The Folha de S.Paulo paper said that the previous government's objections to a potential sale of the Santos Dumont airport in Rio and Congonhas airport in Sao Paulo are not echoed by Temer, nor the government's economic team.

KC-390's long way to show debut
Having flown for 13h, stopping at five airports on a journey spanning 4,500nm (8,320km), the Embraer KC-390 tanker-transport has probably made the longest journey to Farnborough. The company's first prototype – PT-ZNF – which has been flown from the Embraer facility in São José dos Campos, Brazil, is making the aircraft’s international debut, before heading off on a sales drive around Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

L-159 set for Red Flag debut with Draken
Czech manufacturer Aero Vodochody is looking forward to its L-159 light attack aircraft taking part in a Red Flag-series exercise in the USA for the first time. The aircraft is going to be used by contractor Draken International as an aggressor during the exercise, which will pit it against a number of different US Air Force fighters, as well those from other allied forces.
