Ok.. There is a difference between "guy who does weather on TV" and "Meteorologist." Meteorologists can be the "guy who does weather on TV" but they aren't always
A meteorologist has an actual degree in meteorology.. Where as the people who do weather on TV may or may not have some official sounding certification that sounds like it was bought from a website that advertises in my spam folder.

The AMS seal doesn't make you a meteorologist, only a degree from a University could do that. What it does say is that his forecasts and his ability to take the raw data and correctly deduce what will most likely happen fall within the guidelines of that Society. As I argued above, the degree give you a piece of paper that says "credibility" but you don't necessarily have to have that to be able to accurately predict the weather.
