My sister is a full vegetarian and she eats far more than I. I wasn't a fan at first, but I grew to like it. I like other "alternatives" like veggie burgers. I know, I know terrible they sound. I honestly don't miss other meat that much. I find this way I'm eating healthier.

Anyway, you're a good man for adapting to your girlfriend's diet. My best friend's ex-girlfriend is a vegetarian too, and he refused to eat meat substitutes. She was very picky too, if anything came into contact with meat (a utensil, pan, grill, etc.) she wouldn't eat it.

I've never understood how some vegetarians eat fish - calling them pescatarians is a much better idea :)) I don't actually mind veggie bugers, they don't taste anything like meat, but they do taste really nice - as do the sausages. Quorn gives me a headache if I eat too much, but in moderation it is ok. She appreciates me trying, and the only thing we really disagree on is whether our children (if we get married) would be vegetarians - I believe meat is needed as part of a balanced diet, whilst she doesn't. {boggled}
What happens if you end up living together? Will you become a vegetarian yourself? {yuck}

We've already decided that in such a circumstance I'll have a hobby room and separate kitchen to cook steak and bacon in, maybe a pool table, a well stocked bar... I like the sound of it {thumbsup}

Medium rare for me, but so many restaurants - even good restaurants - get medium rare wrong. I spent only 6 months at culinary school, but one thing I learned how to do is a proper medium rare rib eye or filet mignon. The trick is not just in the cooking time, but in the resting time as well. Too many restaurants get the steak off the grill and straight on to your plate and you're cutting in to it within 2 or 3 minutes of it coming off the heat. A proper medium rare steak should be allowed to 'rest' for 5 minutes (under some foil to retain heat) to allow juices to redistribute. If a medium rare steak bleeds too much upon first cut, it's not rested.

But get it right and it's culinary heaven. Nothing like a nice think piece of rib eye, medium rare, just a little salt and pepper to season and a dash of Worcestershire sauce.

Medium Rare for me,

When I was down in BNE, I had a steak and they put sauce on it, I was not used to this. I prefer steak with a little garlic butter myself.

On a very hot BBQ...tenderloin seared to a nice crust on the outside, pink and juicy in the middle...with garlic butter and fresh ground pepper, grilled asparagus drizzled with olive oil and lemon juice, and a nice baked potato (crispy skin, please) smothered in sour cream and fresh snipped chives. Add to that a nice St. Emilion, and it's a date!!

Creme Brulee afterward would be lovely...

This thread has got me to thinking about firing up the BBQ Wednesday or something.

Damn, it's evil to show that to a man who hasn't eaten for 12 hours {vsad}

Medium rare - like the pictures in the thread. Grilled on a very hot grill, and well rested as IFE described.
