Just went out to dinner last night with friends and racked up a $240 bill for just the 3 of us, but damn! it was good.

Went to Kirala in Berkeley. They are one of the few sushi places to serve Ankimo, steamed monkfish liver. OK, so a few of you might be wretching right about now, but this is as delicate as fois gras, but with a slight hint of seafood. This was definitely the star of the meal.

A close second was the Amaebi, japanese sweet shrimp. The tail meat is served nigiri-sushi style, while the heads are then deep fried and served separately in a lightly seasoned ponzu sauce. Another hit was the deep fried soft-shell crab. Again served with the delicious ponzu sauce.

We then had the more traditional selections, such as Hamachi (Yellow Tail), Aji (Spanish Mackerel), Katsuo (Bonito), Maguro (Tuna), and Unagi (Fresh water eel).
Look, it's been swell, but the swelling's gone down.

I love Sushi! My wife and me visit our favorite Sushi restaurant at least once a month. Luckily, it's not that expensive - they offer a $22.50 all you can eat. Still, the quality is good. It's a Kaiten Sushi restaurant, so the tables are arranged around a small conveyor belt.

You just have to be careful where to park the car... ShanwickOceanic knows what I'm talking about... {blush}

Sushi is great. I'm a big fan of yellowtail, california rolls, and Salmon Nigiri Sushi. I would eat it at least 4 times per week if I didnt have to worry about the health risks.

I tried sushi for the first time at the 2006 BHM meet and didn't care for it much. I especially didn't like the texture, too mushy for my taste.
Slider... <sniff, sniff>... you stink.

I don't eat raw fish.
I root for natural disasters.

I once did. I told her she needed to shower first. {duck}

Another situation where a year of university-level microbiology courses forever changes one's life choices. Let's just say that I'd have to be starving on a desert island before I'd eat raw fish.

Don't give up on it. I didn't like it the first time I tried it either, but then started traveling and got to experience a couple of AYCE Sushui restaurants over in Asia-Pacific region. If I didn't like a piece, I spit it out and tried something else. There are tons of different kinds. A lot I love, and a lot I can't stand.

Tuna, marlin, shrimp are some of the best. Octapus, eel, and some of the other mushy ones I don't care for......
Rack-em'. I'm getting a beer.

Sounds like you're quoting miamiair... verbatim! {laugh}

I LOVE SUSHI! I just don't have it as often as I'd like seeing that he doesn't care for it much. {sorry} If I could though, I'd eat sushi daily and never grow tired. :)

You know what they say about great minds....nope, I'm a seared-on-the-outside-pink-in-the-middle steak girl!! I've often said, feed me a tenderloin and I'll follow you anywhere...figuratively speaking, of course! {laugh}

Medium-rare steaks and Sushi are not mutually exclusive. I love both, and could eat both on a daily basis.
Which reminds me... maybe I could surprise the wife with a Sushi box for dinner. Great idea! {thumbsup}

Sushi, along with the tuna-mayo sandwich, could soon be a thing of the past as pressure mounts for a ban on tuna fishing. Some retailers are already refusing to stock it:-

Sushi is the one thing I constantly over eat on. I just love all the rolls (cut of course).

Spicy tuna should be it's own food group.

Still have a craving for sushi?

Anthony Franz says an undercooked salmon salad gave him a 9-foot-tapeworm, and in August he sued the Chicago restaurant that served it to him.

If Franz’s tapeworm tale holds water – and the Chicago Sun-Times reports that the restaurant disputes his account – then it’s just one more data point to add to a growing urban tapeworm problem.

Once the bane of rural Japanese villagers, a paper in the June issue of Emerging Infectious Diseases reports on the spread of the the salmon tapeworm Diphyllobothrium nihonkaiense. The parasite, which can reach lengths of 12 meters, has been steadily increasing its globing distribution and prevalence – mostly among yuppies with a hankering for sashimi and ceviche.

One hospital in Japan reported 14 cases last year, up from 3 cases in 2000. And starting in 2006, the tapeworm has been popping up for the first time in North America and Europe. Meanwhile, farm-raised salmon from South America have been plagued by a closely related tapeworm that normally infects perch and other freshwater fish.

That's why you do not go to sushi places that are shady. Stick to the nice ones and you'll be fine.

Just simply never eat sushi. There's the liver flukes. Those are nasty, too.
