The FIFA Ballon d'Or was awarded to Cristiano Ronaldo today. My FB news feed is full of both Real Madrid fans celebrating and Barcelona fans calling BS... I do like football, but I think I'd rather stay off social media for the following week

Klitschko Brothers news:
Vitali, the older, slightly taller one, has now retired and gone into politics full time. First order of business, break up a protest. It went well:
The guy with the fire extinguisher has immediately been installed as number one contender for the DCP (dubious celebrity politicians) heavyweight title and will be beaten 112-109 on points, as arranged with the 3 German judges last night.
Meanwhile, younger Brother Wladimir continues to pad out his record with meaningless title defences against lowly-ranked opponents. Next on the list is Alex Leapai who magically jumped up the rankings to mandatory contender status after narrowly beating Denis Boystov, a man whose heart is so shaky he requires a defibrillator in his corner (I kid you not).

Doctors have begun to wake Michael Schumacher out of his coma. Though he doesn't appear to be in any imminent danger, reports are that there is unlikely to be anything left of his personality or cognitive abilities.
Not that he'd miss F1 too much at the moment - the new designs are causing havoc as Lewis Hamilton ran his Mercedes straight into a wall due to 'front wing failure' and both Red Bull and Torro Rosso's cars are out of commission with engine trouble. Torro Rosso opted not to run their cars, Red Bull gave it a try and blew two engines.

Not to mention the noses look like giant sex toys, and the new God awful double-points rule. At least they didn't create any stupid knockout playoff format. No major racing series worth a damn would ever do that...

There was a record set for the highest attended boxing match in British history, when George Groves got his rematch against Carl Froch for the IBF Super middleweight title in front of 85k fans (their previous bout ended in a controversial stoppage in favour of Froch). Groves talked a lot, Froch knocked him flat on his back in the eighth, Groves needed oxygen and a brain scan.

What is being widely called the worst decision in combat sports happened the past weekend when Sunderland's UFC Lightweight contender Ross Pearson handed a ferocious 3-round beatdown to Diego Sanchez in Sanchez's home city of Albuquerque NM. The fight was 30-27 or 30-26 on everybody watching's cards, and one judge scored it 30-27 to Pearson (and later admitted he was being generous to Sanchez because he assumed the other two would call it 30-26 to Pearson). But no! the other two judges called it 30-27 & 29-28 to Sanchez who, by his smug facial expression at the end of the fight, knew the judges were compromised.
The result of all this skulduggery? Pearson appealed the result to the NM Athletic Commission, who clearly won't overturn the decision against their native fighter. Cue more smug grins from Sanchez, which were promptly wiped off his face when UFC President Dana White informed him that he has 14 days to agree to a rematch or lose his place in the promotion. If Sanchez can get a visa (he struggled last time) there is talk of him fighting Pearson in the UK. UFC Fight Night Sunderland, now that would be worth watching!
