We hear from both of them very occasionally, when they're not being busy and important and important and busy of course.

And isn't MYT and his partner taking Kirkie (who is on here) off to Moscow this weekend? They'll let anyone into BA biz class these days!!

A Sphinx Moth doing some flowers at the In'n'Out park. I seriously thought this was a hummingbird at first, because 1.) it's large, and 2.) it flaps its wings incredibly fast for a moth:

I call everything insect and insect-like creepy critters. Much as I like taking photos of them, they completely freak me out for some reason.

Can't be a moth, it isn't smashing its head against a light bulb...

Nice shots, tricky enough at the best of times and it looks like you didn't have much light to play with.
My friend and I applied for airline jobs in Australia, but they didn't Qantas.

Ha! Next time I'll bring a flashlight and see what happens....

Thanks! What you don't see is how many duds I had to get 4 decent ones. You're right about the light, too - it was after sunset. Those were all shot at ISO2500.

Quite pleased with this one - taking photos of my new car with my phone. Not only does it look 'right' IMO, it is also about the only one I managed to miss the dog walkers who were intent on walking into every shot.

It's not a diesel. Didn't want to contemplate the expense of particulate filters being replaced.

Wise move, the petrol engines are pretty bullet-proof. Even the 1.4 has some poke (we have one in the pool at work, a 1.4 'Exclusiv').

Nice photo too.

I got the 1.6 which has a bit more - though I was loaned a 1.4 for a bit (as my Punto abandoned me...) and it was still quite nice.

Love those Zoo pics-especially the Girraffe-weird creatures, but very graceful.
That Eagle has a real " I`m going to eat you" look, and the Wolf is pretty scary too! Great shots.

Various hikes this summer. Keep in mind, I don't fancy myself a photographer...just a guy who has a convenient way to record his memories.

US staving off the Kiwis in America's Cup Race 15, Sunday, 9/22. As of Tuesday, 9/24, it's a dead-heat at 8-8 with the US team attempting to stage one of the greatest comebacks in sports history:

Haven't posted anything here in awhile. Was in DC this past weekend. Couple shots (panoramas) from inside the Washington Nationals' stadium.

First one is an HDR-panorama due to the high sun and deep shadows. Came out nicely, but I hate doing those. Takes forever to edit (note: forever = about 20 minutes).

Man, what was the weather like, Vik? I just went hiking 4 days ago and got the fool sunburned out of me, even though it was 38 degrees. It's the whole high-altitude thing, though. Makes it way easier to burn.

From my brother's cabin:

I actually got a sunburn.

Looking at Fish Creek Park about 5 miles from the trailhead, just over 10,000 feet in elevation:

Also, is that a little galaxy in the top right? If so, which one? Also taken in the Winds. I'm going to practice non-trail stacked images here soon.

In DC? Weather was beautiful - sunny, in the high 50s during the day.

If I'm looking at your photo correctly, and that's Pleiades in the lower right, then that should be Andromeda (M31) in the top right. Additionally, I think you can see the Double Cluster (NGC 869 and 884) about 1/4 of the way down from the top and 1/3 in from the left. And you might have picked up a faint NGC 752. Here, I'll just draw it up and label it:

1. Andromeda
2. NGC 752
3. Double Cluster
4. M34 open cluster
5. Pleiades

I had to do this in Paint, which means the quality went to hell, so look on your original to actually see what I marked. :)

Also keep in mind it's entirely possible that I'm in the completely wrong region of the sky.

Image

EDIT: Yeah, that is Andromeda. Here's a cropped-in shot I took last winter. You can see the same bright stars (not the dim ones, since this is LA :( ) that show up in your photo (though upside-down, as I caught it on the other side of the Polestar):

Whoo hoo, cool. Thanks for taking the time to do that. I went and checked, and you nailed it on all of them! I am still surprised that you can see them so well.

I don't know if the instructions below will work, but I am going to give them a shot. Since I live where it is incredibly dark and there is no light pollution, I might be able to pull something off.
