An editorial:

The Defense Department's decision to spend $13 billion on its aging fleet of C-5 Galaxy cargo planes rather than purchase more capable aircraft such as the C-17 Globemaster II is worrisome, according to this editorial from Antonio Gil Morales, a former national commander of the American GI Forum. The decision to modernize an aging fleet instead of buying new C-17s shortchanges troops and national needs, Morales writes.

And unlike the C-5A, the modern C-17 can reliably perform the full range of missions demanded by our military, such as the precision airdrop of a brigade, the delivery of humanitarian assistance or acting as a flying ambulance to evacuate wounded warriors.

I fail to see how the modernized C-5 can't do any of those jobs.

That article strikes me as a bunch of C-17 Rah Rah.

In the time of cuts, there's still a need for both. Killing the F-22 program is one thing one supposes...but there will always be tons of 'garbage' to haul.
