The Pentagon's increased use of the Hawker Beechcraft MC-12 Liberty spy plane has boosted efforts to gain intelligence on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan since Defense Secretary Robert Gates rushed the planes into service a year ago, Air Force records show. The four-person, twin-engine propeller plane, based on a popular civilian aircraft, has helped gather intelligence to capture dozens of insurgents, disrupt networks that produce improvised explosive devices and discover the bombs before they could kill U.S. troops, according to the records.

Was this the aircraft that it was suggested had been operating over New York and helped in the capture of the Times Square bomber who was apprehended aboard an Emirates flight to Dubai?

Either way, it looks to be one very useful piece of kit.
