An interesting video, a bit long, but worth watching.

One of the pilots on the panel died late last year, the third highest scoring ace of all time.

And let's get one thing straight. There's a big difference between a pilot and an aviator. One is a technician; the other is an artist in love with flight. — E. B. Jeppesen

I belong to a group known as the Battle of Midway Roundtable...it is comprised not only of Midway enthusiasts, but also of veterans of the battle itself. It has its own superb website: http://home.comcast.net/~r2russ/midway/ ...and posts a weekly newsletter devoted to various aspects of the battle. Members routinely ask very detailed questions about the battle, which are invariably answered if not by a veteran of the battle, then usually by an author of one of the authoratative books on Midway (ie: a long discussion on why Fighting 8 continued on a westward track when Torpedo 8 turned southwest directly towards the Japanese Navy, one that included a member of Fighting 8).

So much to be learned from all the surviving veterans of the war to end all wars...sad thing is, they're leaving us all too soon, at too rapid a pace.

Thanks Vic, for posting such an example, and reminding us that, no matter which side of the battle one was on, there still are courageous people such as these who fought for their ideals, whether or not we as a nation agreed with them.
