I know that's a hell of a lot closer than I'd like to see an SU-27 in flight {bugeye}

Google translation:

FRA and the Armed Forces confirm that Russian fighter on several occasions during the past six months has behaved in an unusually provocative against Swedish signals intelligence aircraft.
- In general, the military activity in the Baltic Sea region has increased in recent years, and it now has, among other things, taken the form of the Russian fighter on several occasions behaved in a new and more provocative, says Lena Nyberg, Director of the Department for signal intelligence at FRA .

Armed Forces Deputy Director of Operations, Anders Grenstad, stresses that closely follows developments in the immediate area and continuously analyzes the Russian aviation.

- They have a behavior that we have not seen in previous years, it is clearly tougher flights now. As the government noted continuing turmoil in our part of the world to increase and that Russia is acting much more aggressively than before, he says.

Russia's military behaviour in the Baltic region has changed in recent years?

Could that have anything to do with this:

I also note that the article says nothing about the behaviour of the Swedish intelligence aircraft (who, I'm sure, were only up there to collect daisies).

Fair point. There have been several Russian intrusions into Finnish airspace as well lately, though.

Indeed, there is little doubt that Russia systematically breaches other countries' airspaces, quite probably in an attempt to test their reaction pattern.

However, while I don't have a source at hand, I remember that not too long ago Russia claimed that NATO did the same with their airspace. Which, honestly, would not surprise me the least.

And Finland has been making nice noises toward NATO recently, which no doubt annoys Putin.

I'm not so sure what the point is? That Russia has the right to send aggressive flights testing the defenses of countries that no longer want to be forced into their despotic union?

And no, I'm not familiar with Bear-like aircraft excursions by the west to the edge of Russian airspace.
