Believe it or not but Russia has finally put a hold on exclusively buying their military stuff from Russian suppliers.

MOSCOW - Russia wants to buy a French helicopter-carring warship, a top general said Aug. 26. Such a purchase would deviate from the Soviet-era principle of producing every piece of military equipment - from pistol cartridges to ballistic missiles - domestically.

That's odd, I am thinking there will be some kind of trade. Do the Russians still make good diesel subs?

Have they ever?
I think it will be more in the form of an energy(oil+gas) for weapons trade.

I think with their Existing Rubis-class SSN's and their upcomming state-of the art Barracuda's , a Russian old Diesel sub is the last thing they'll be intersted in.

Besides the propulsion for conventional subs these days , certainly in European countries , is AIP type subs.
They are so good and undetectable that even the US NAVY had a complete Swedish Sub together with its crew on lease for 3 years to learn how to counter that treath , even up until today it seems too much of a challenge.

Meh. It's not the sub; it's the sonar and the noise/machinery inside that counts.
Teller of no, fixer of everything, friend of the unimportant and all around good guy; the CAD Monkey
