Interesting. What will be the NATO codename for military 787?

One of those slap-happy deals between some corrupt MAF general and somebody in the government who gets kickbacks from AeroMexico. Let's face it, the MAF can't even maintain a 727, what makes them think they can take care of the Flying Tennis Racquet?
And let's get one thing straight. There's a big difference between a pilot and an aviator. One is a technician; the other is an artist in love with flight. — E. B. Jeppesen

More to the point, how do Mexico afford a single aircraft that is reported to be costing $600M once retro-fitting and finance payments are taken into account?: http://www.sandiegored.com/noticias/534 ... the-World/
A million great ideas...

Does that article actually have any source on which to base that price tag? From reading the article I can't but feel that they get that number under the assumption that Mexico is buying the 787 at list price. And given that MSN6 is one of the 20 Terrible Teens, it is probably a safe bet that Mexico is paying a rather low price for the plane itself.

Also, 10,000 miles of range? Doesn't seem realistic either, for one because the early 787s have about 1,000 miles less range than the regular 787s, and while as a business jet they are lighter than a pax jet, the article is implying that there will be a lot of expensive and probably very heavy equipment on board that will reduce range.

Of course, the VC-25s are capable of air-to-air refueling, so their range isn't actually limited anyway.

All in all, yes, seems like an expensive purchase by the MAF, but probably nowhere near as expensive and "better than AF1" than that article portrays it to be.

Pretty much agree other than on range possibly. They could easily have added some fuel capacity in the hold. It's not like they'll be carrying that much luggage in Executive config.
