To be fair, amazing advances in directed energy weapons have been made during the lifetime of the program, leaving the 747 platform obsolete.

Watching the video, I got the impression that the technology has evolved enough to be used by far smaller aircraft and running a jumbo with the original tech. onboard isn't required anymore. There was even mention of the technology finding its way onto UAVs in the near future.
A million great ideas...
