Your online Air Force Base.

It all started in the Outside The Box thread in AvPhoto.

I had come across this great shot of a Herc apparently taking off from a beach (sorry, I cannot embed the photo here).

Subsequently, I tried to find out what exactly went on there. According to the photog's comment, the shot was taken at Saltum beach in Northern Denmark. I found one post in a Danish forum that suggests Saltum beach is used as a training facility for Herc offroad ops, but despite of the camera team in the picture, I did not find any other photos or videos.

Until now. Happened on 04 Oct, and here's the video:

Danish only, and there are only a few seconds of the actual landing (or touch-and-go, as it looks), but damn! That's impressive! {bugeye}
From the comment below the picture, it sounds as if several aircraft were involved.

My friend and I applied for airline jobs in Australia, but they didn't Qantas.

That was a piece of cake. Just crashin' and dashin'.
And let's get one thing straight. There's a big difference between a pilot and an aviator. One is a technician; the other is an artist in love with flight. — E. B. Jeppesen

Nothing magic about landing on a beach when the weather is decent, they make very nice runways. Nice "breeze" to make things interesting in the Danish video, and like a true bush pilot, he drags the field first before the landing attempt. No reason you shouldn't be able to operate a 737 out of the beach in the British video, that's something I'd like to see! Never mind the salt water, it'll dry. :))
Slider... <sniff, sniff>... you stink.
