That's my thought as well.

I assume that the debris is not too much for most engines?

I saw pictures once of an A-6 that ate a pine tree... It really did have branches with pine needles still on them wedged into the skin panels.

Maybe, it seemed to me that the altitude was lower than normal even for these types of flights.

VF-213 Black Lions

They were one of the last to fly the Tomcat.
