6 days left for 'overweight' Biman cabin crew to avoid action
National flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines has grounded a section of its cabin crews for being “overweight” and has asked them to slim down by the end of December to avoid strict actions.
In a crackdown on “overweight” flight attendants, two months ago, Biman had asked 21 members of the cabin crew to lose weight to meet minimum requirements by December this year, or face consequences in January next year.

China Southern to keep codeshares after leaving SkyTeam
China Southern Airlines will maintain codeshare arrangements with most SkyTeam members even after leaving the alliance next year.
“Through bilateral cooperation, the company will continue to maintain codeshare partnerships with its existing SkyTeam partners and frequent flyer cooperation will be continued with Aeroflot, Aerolineas Argentinas, Air Europa, Air France, Alitalia, China Airlines, Czech Airlines, Delta Air Lines, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Korean Air, Middle East Airlines, Saudia, Vietnam Airlines and Xiamen Airlines,” the carrier says in a stock exchange disclosure.

American Airlines Workers Won’t Get Class Status in Lawsuit Over Overtime Pay
Another blow to the working folks at airlines as a court rules about the particulars of when people actually started to work once they clocked in.
American Airlines workers at Newark’s airport who claim in a lawsuit they’ve been shorted on overtime pay can’t sue as a class, a federal appeals court ruled this week.

Air Kiribati takes delivery of first E190-E2
Air Kiribati (IK, Tarawa) has taken delivery of its maiden E190-E2, VH-IKJ (msn 19020029), the Fiji Sun has reported.
The aircraft was accepted by Acting Chief Executive Danial Rochford but has yet to be ferried from Sao Josa dos Campos to Tarawa.
The I-Kiribati flag carrier is expecting a second E190-E2 - msn 19020036 - in April 2020. The state-owned airline has options with Embraer for a further two aircraft of the type.

Surinam Airways accepts first B777
Surinam Airways (PY, Paramaribo Int'l) has announced the addition of its first B777 following the arrival of PZ-TCU (msn 32336) in Paramaribo Int'l from Frankfurt Int'l on December 20.
Formerly in service with Singapore Airlines (SQ, Singapore Changi) as 9V-SVL, the 17-year-old B777-200(ER) is leased from Boeing Aircraft Holding and replaces a single A340-300 the Surinamese carrier had operated. It is recalled that SLM, as the airline is commonly known, is looking to eventually replace the B777 with a B787 at a later stage.

Spirit Airlines firms order for 100+50 A320neo Family jets
Spirit Airlines (NK, Fort Lauderdale Int'l) has firmed up a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) covering a total of up to 150 A320neo Family jets.
The Florida-based ultra-low-cost-carrier said in a stock market filing that it had signed a finalised deal on December 20. The purchase includes 100 firm order jets - A319neo, A320neo, and A321neo jets - as well as 50 additional options. Deliveries of the firm ordered aircraft will run through 2027.

Thai Eastar Jet, Thai Summer head for 2020 certification
The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) is in the process of certifying two start-ups, Thai Eastar Jet (ESS, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) and Thai Summer Airways (AST, Utapao), with decisions regarding their Air Operator's Certificates (AOCs) expected in early 2020, Director General Chula Sukmanop told the Thai media.
According to the Bangkok Post, Chula underlined that the law requires new airlines to launch services within 12 months of certification. As such, both start-ups will have to commence operations by the end of 2020 or early 2021, although both will likely start earlier.

Istanbul Ataturk operator compensated for early closure
Turkish authorities are to compensate the operator of Istanbul Ataturk airport for the hub’s early closure following the transfer of traffic to a new airport for the city.
Traffic was moved to the new airport on 6 April this year.
French airports operator Groupe ADP holds a 46% share in the TAV Airports venture which held the concession for Ataturk.

Su-57 suffers first known crash
A Sukhoi Su-57 stealth fighter crashed on 24 December during a test flight, with the pilot ejecting safely.
Media reports, citing United Aircraft Corporation, said the crash happened in the Khabarovsk region in South-eastern Russia.
