Initial Il-114-300 panels produced by Aviastar
Initial fuselage panels for the modernised version of the Ilyushin Il-114 turboprop have been manufactured by the Aviastar production plant in Ulyanovsk.
The Il-114-300 is an upgraded derivative of the original design, and is being developed to address Russian demand for regional air transport.

Atlas 767 crash: Go-around mode activated after mystery ‘click’
Investigators probing the fatal Atlas Air Boeing 767-300 freighter crash near Houston have been trying to ascertain whether a sound captured on the cockpit-voice recorder signifies the activation of the go-around switch immediately before the accident sequence.
The aircraft suddenly entered a steep nose-down attitude and dived into Trinity Bay from around 6,000ft while preparing for an approach to Houston on 23 February.

Air Caraibes takes delivery of first Airbus A350-1000
Air Caraibes has taken delivery of its first of three Airbus A350-1000s it has on order.
The Groupe Dubreuil carrier already operates three A350-900s and six A330s on routes from Paris to the French Caribbean.
Delivery comes after the airline confirmed its order for the -1000s three years ago.

Norwegian eyes Max compensation deal by year-end
Norwegian is hopeful it can reach an agreement with Boeing on compensation for its grounded 737 Max fleet by the end of the year.
The Scandinavian budget carrier was one of the first airlines to demand compensation from the US manufacturer over the grounding of the Max in the wake of two fatal crashes.

Jeju Air to acquire majority stake in low-cost rival Eastar Jet
South Korean low-cost carrier Jeju Air is acquiring a 51% stake in compatriot Eastar Jet for W69.5 billion ($59.6 million).
Jeju says the carriers have signed a memorandum of understanding and foresee sealing a contract by year-end.

China Eastern receives first A350 with cockpit touchscreens
China Eastern Airlines has taken delivery of the first Airbus A350 to be fitted with a touchscreen option for the large displays in the aircraft’s cockpit.
The initial aircraft to receive the option is an A350-900, MSN373, which is registered B-30CW.

Zipair Tokyo reveals cabin for 787-8s
Japanese start-up carrier Zipair Tokyo has equipped its first Boeing 787-8 aircraft with Jamco and Recaro seats.
This is configured with 290 seats across two classes, with Jamco supplying 18 full-flat seats in business class and 272 seats in economy class from Recaro.

Cebu Pacific firms order for 15 A320neo jets
Cebu Pacific Air has firmed an order for 15 A320neo family aircraft, including up to 10 A321XLRs.
”Cebu Air signed a purchase agreement with Airbus for the order of 15 A320neo family aircraft which includes up to 10 A321XLR,” says the airline in a stock exchange filing. “The order for the said aircraft is valued at $2 billion based on list prices.”

Hokkaido Air System receives first ATR 42
Japanese regional carrier Hokkaido Air System (HAC) has taken delivery of its first of two ATR 42-600s.
HAC ordered the ATRs at the Farnborough air show in 2018. It also holds an option for a third turboprop.

USAF names ballistic missile security helicopter the MH-139A ‘Grey Wolf’
The US Air Force (USAF) named its intercontinental ballistic missile base security and support helicopter, the Boeing MH-139A, the “Grey Wolf” on 19 December.
The MH-139A is the military version of the commercial Leonardo AW139 twin-engined, medium-sized helicopter. Built at Leonardo’s Philadelphia, Pennsylvania factory, the helicopter’s military components are added by prime contractor Boeing after initial assembly.

Typhoons, Rafales star in Qatar’s annual flypast
A trio of Royal Air Force Eurofighter Typhoons took part in a flypast of Doha on 18 December, joining Qatari assets involved in national day celebrations. Also appearing for the first time were Dassault Rafales of the Qatar Emiri Air Force.

Energy Department unveils three radiation sniffing King Air 350ERs
The Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration unveiled three new King Air 350ER aircraft at Joint Base Andrews on 18 December to be used to measure air and ground radiation coming from events such as nuclear explosions or accidents.
The aircraft will also be used to conduct baseline surveys of normal radiation levels in preparation for major public events, the National Nuclear Security Administration says on 19 December.

KC-46A inches forward, but foreign sales remain elusive
The Boeing KC-46A Pegasus tanker programme got off to a bumpy start in 2019. Delivery stoppages because of foreign object debris and three category one deficiencies put the already-late programme on an even more delayed schedule.

Is having touchscreens a very new tech for jetliners? (Note: I hate all VIDS/IDS5/etc. type touchscreens in my environment, but that's because the gov always contracts for crappy ones.)
